Leonardo DiCaprio

I saw him on Jay Leno and he was hilarious. He talked about his grandmother and said that her favourite movie is Titanic and she always tells him that he isn´t as pretty as he was then and that he should pull his hair back. He even did like a german accent.

There's a terrific (and funny!) Newsweek Magazine article featuring an "Oscar roundtable" with Leo (and Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Helen Mirren, Forest Whitaker, and Penelope Cruz).

You can read it here.

Here's an excerpt:
Leo, you made your first film, "This Boy's Life," at 16. What was that like?
DICAPRIO: I didn't know how to conduct myself on a film set. The director, Michael Caton-Jones, really took me under his wing. He said things like, "When you're rehearsing with Robert De Niro, you don't talk about what baseball cards you're collecting."

Leo, you became a teen idol at an early age also.
DICAPRIO: I had a brief run at that on television, being thrown on the cover of teen magazines, and I was trying to work away from that. I wanted to establish myself as an actor who put a lot of thought into his characters and did good work. And then I did a movie called "Titanic," and there I was, right back into that position of being looked at as another piece of cute meat.

Leo, didn't you get thrown off the set of "Romper Room"?
DICAPRIO: Yeah, when I was 3 years old. I ran up to the camera and started shaking it, saying, "Look at me!"

the videos that go with the newsweek interview are just too funny. leo does this impression of him trying to please casting directors when he was younger...so hilarious.
do they do this roundtable every year - in public, i mean? i recall it just being a written article.

Colour me uncultured, but all Scorsese films send me to sleep as a rule. That said I have seen neither the Aviator nor The Departed.

The Aviator is my LEAST favorite Scorsese movie. But definitely give The Departed a shot. AMAZING film. And have you tried The Age of Innocence?

I am watching the videos right now. When Penelope said that she went out and a person called her "wh*re". Leo couldn´t stop laughing. That was really funny.

He used to be sooo attractive.. not really anymore. :'(

OOOOH BOY! I beg to differ! I never understood the Leo-mania before, he always looked like a pretty boy teenager to me...

But in The Departed, I found myself suddenly wanting to jump his bones in every scene. I have a total Leo crush now, he's like, physically the perfect guy to me, lol.

I love his scruffy airport look too, fwiw :flower:

Leo = sexy b*tch!

OK, and to say something about fashion, I love his Old Hollywood look at the GG Awards... just... so... classic and... hot *fans self*

I didn't like Gangs of New York at all, it bored me to tears, but The Departed is seriously one of the best movies I've ever seen, it's amazing from start to finish.

Other films I consider "among the best" are things like Goodfellas, As Good As It Gets, Gia, Mulholland Drive... so that's what my taste is like.

I agree with you. He is now, better that ever. He is a real man now, not a boy anymore. He´s so sexy and funny sometimes. I love when he´s being very serious on an interview and suddently makes a hilarious remark about something or imitates someone´s accent. Those funny things out of the blue are the best.

The Departed is amazing and he´s great on it. He´s amazing on Blood Diamond too.

lol yes, i wanted to hear penelope talk more she had some of the most interesting stories.

agree with you guys on the boy turned man thing. i never understood all the hype about him - it was after the departed where i was like 'okay...when did kid dicaprio turn sexy?' haha

he's always been a great actor though - i think he's one of the few in hollywood that are consistently good (ironically - kate winslet is among them...they should hook up haha...or would that be too tacky). you can tell he doesn't do movies for the sake of doing them - he's done only a handful since titanic.

How did he not get nominated for The Departed??? I can't beleive it! Well at least he got one for Blood Diamond.

go leo!!!

(i'm also really glad ryan gosling got nominated...he won't win but he's just so brilliant!)

I really thought he was better on Blood Diamond. But he was awsome on both.

Yeah I thought he was great I both but I was really surprised he didn't get nominated for both... I guess one Oscar nomination is good enough though :D

I didn't see Blood Diamond yet, but i'm glad he got an Oscar nom! But is there some sort of Titanic curse, he and Kate Winslet keep getting nominated but never win! Somehow I don't think this is going to be their year either :(

I know what you mean but I keep hearing how this is not his year and it really surprises me. I mean, winning the Oscar doesn´t determine if it is or isn´t your year. I think Leo is having an amazing year, whether he wins or he doesn´t. 2 amazing performances in 2 great movies.

I think this is definitely his year, no matter what happens next month. People look at him in a totally different way now.
