THE FRESH FACE: LEXI BOLING
She’s off to a bright start—from the runway at Alexander Wang to shooting editorials with Carine Roitfeld

Meet Lexi Boling, our latest Fresh Face by way of Ford Models. Lexi grew up in the suburbs of Chicago surrounded by boys and a dad who is a “major dude,” so it’s no surprise that she wears a lot of men’s clothing, loves snowboarding, and loves rap music—if a Missy Elliot song with dirty lyrics should surface on the playlist, expect Boling to bust some moves. On set for Issue 5, we danced with Lexi in between shots and listened to her tale of being pushed into modeling by her mother. Lexi went from not wanting to model at all, to walking her first runway show at Alexander Wang’s Spring ‘14. Now you can catch Lexi if you can; she walked 54 shows last season and cites Red Bull as one of her motivating factors. Here’s the full story on the very cool—and one to watch—Lexi Boling.

TEARS FOR FEARS “My mom made me go into an open call when I was 15. We were going shopping in Chicago and we pulled up to Ford Models. I just immediately started crying because I didn’t want to model. They ended up liking me. I was in my awkward stage—I thought.”

BEST IN SHOW “I think it really all kicked in at the first show I did: Alexander Wang. I was exclusive for six months starting in June. My first show was in September. That’s what I remembered most because it was just huge and the runway was really cool. It all hit me then.”

STUDIO 54 “I was exclusive for Balenciaga too, and after that I did 12 more shows. I didn’t quite realize exactly what was happening! Then this season I did 54.”

SLEEPLESS IN… “On my days off I just chill. I’ll get what I have to do done and I’ll go out with friends, or just cool off for a little bit until it all picks up again. By that time I’m bored with just sitting around anyways.”

ADVICE COLUMN “Don’t take anything personally. I think it’s really important to just stay true to who you are, and not fall into the standard model criteria. Be yourself and don’t be stuck up. And don’t be boring—no one wants to hang around with a model on set for two days who is boring! You need to keep talking to people to continue to build relationships.”

CARINE’S CORNER “My first shoot with Carine was for Harper’s Bazaar; it was really fun actually. They had me play my favorite music and just dance around. I was there for 25 minutes shooting in the middle of fashion week. It was nice to step away from shows and shoot, and to be in my own space.”

HIDDEN TALENT “I started snowboarding seven years ago when I was a freshman in high school. I can make it down the slope without falling.”

WING WOMAN “I really don’t have any good beauty tricks. I really just wake up in the morning and walk out of the house. Redbull is my key to life.”

I like Prada, though TBH, that looks like it could be any low budget show circa 2002.
