hm she looks a bit like me uniform and all except with specs.

just looking through all of runner's posts again. I love these clothes. they are really so beautifully austere but in a feminine way. black clothes can have such depth. I love how japanese designers have a real thing about navy & black clothes - a bit like me really....

helena have you ever read any yohji books? this refers to the other thread--when yohji spoke of just being born in japan and i also read he's not consciously trying to "be" japanese...but the influence is obvious-mens kimonos are often dark blue and black and gender neutral...anyways you would probably be interested in this link..which explains this much more eloquently than i can...

Travolta ! :woot: :stuart: Thanks so much for the link. What an interesting article.

welcome, glad you liked it.^_^ back in college i wrote a paper about the differences between eastern dress citing japanese designers and western dress citing some others i can't remember...it would have a interesting to have turned it into a thesis or something...

travolta - really enjoyed that article too. There were a number of things that I relate to - the gender issues, the rebellion against the norm (and even against the stereotype of a rebel) and the challenging of conventions.

Thans for the article, Travolta. I printed it out and I'll try to get to it over the weekend (too much school work as it is).

helena, faust-glad you liked it. i could relate to this article for the same reasons as you...
i especially appreciated the quote by miyake ‘I do not create a fashionable aesthetic…I create a style based on life.’ which to me is not avante-garde at all. his experimentation and openess to the medium is where relevant design comes from and transcends subjectivity...to me..probably comme des garcons would be the least...their designs are so rooted in reality and they are such physical innovations that they are more important than haute couture-and it seems things are moving that direction anyways.

how does limi fit into this group...or does it?...what do you guys thinkn?...

One side of Limi could be a new generation carrying Yohji's aesthetic, yet putting a touch of her own. That is not to say that she has no individual style, because she clearly does, judging by the collections. Yet, I find it wonderful that she is not following the popular punk/lost youth motif that is so prevalent in Number (N)ine and Undercover - because that would be so easy to do. She is keeping her own style without losing respect for the previous generation and without rebelling against it - and I think there is a certain feeling of harmony in that, which I like.

i agree ... :flower:

i love the navy trousers runner. I am looking for a pair of navy trousers to buy to wear with my CDG CDG skirt. I don't like the bright colours so much. The pockets on these lothes remind me of the pockets on the winter y's jackets.

Thanks runner - its so good to see you around!
