Here is a pic from last September's Essence mag. Two of my favorites, Iman and Liya.:blush: Anyway, Liya responded to Iman's questions, and she said she wished people knew more about her home country as opposed to the stereotypes; she said the standards of beauty there are different from the modelling industry's, and so she didn't feel beautiful for a while; and she's Christian. :flower:

Did she say what the beauty standards in Ethiopia are like? Do they dislike her thinness? Her skin color? Her facial features? Her hair texture? Her height? I'm surprised that Liya isn't considered beautiful in east Africa.

She is most certainly pregnant again. I saw her out the other night...don't worry, she wasn't drinking! ;)

Here is the quote::flower:

Iman: What about growing up in Ethiopia? What did your girlfriends consider beautiful when you were a teenager?
Liya: First of all, what is seen as beautful in Ethiopia is totally the opposite of what is beautiful here.
Iman: Were you considered beautiful there? Because now you're known as one of the most beautiful women in the world.
Liya: No. I was the skinny girl and people were saying, "My God, feed her. Do something." And I was like, "I am eating; leave me alone." The funny thing is that now when I go back, I see all the women, and they're all like, "I want to be skinny." Life changes so quickly.

Iman also says the Somali standard of beauty excludes her particular look. :cry:
