Lou Doillon looked a million euros at the Chanel show

As the daughter of Jane Birkin and half-sister of Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lou Doillon has no excuse not to look a million euros every time she steps out of the door. It's in her DNA. To look un-chic would be some nasty, genetic throwback and God's just not that kind of mean.

But Doillon's look at this week's Chanel show is so right.

It's super-elegant, fun and… I'm sorry but I have suddenly had to revise my entire thesis.

I was going to say that the best thing about this ensemble is how easy-peasy it would be to, ahem, pay homage to. The key, I was going to say, was the Crayola-coloured A-line skirt.

But can I find me a Crayola-coloured A-line, non-Chanel skirt? No, I cannot.

Having spent the best part of an hour rampaging through the online shopping aisles I can tell you the A-line pickings are slim and bright colours non-existent. The best (the only ones) are at Whistles and Reiss but they're in neutrals or darks.

And it's the shot of bright - along with the hat - that prevents this look from being something your average Parisian woman might wear to the dentist.

Which just goes to show. Sometimes only Chanel will do.
