Louis Vuitton S/S 2024 Paris

Oof. A very challenging collection to process, and one that doesn't translate so well to still images.

The bustiers and oversize silk jackets early on are probably the strongest pieces to me. Not so into the jacket and skirt combos at the beginning that felt like a re-tread of Resort 2016 (I think...the one shown in the desert). Ironic that there was a reference to clown clothes as the whole affair felt a bit circus influenced. And there's definitely a very French sense of naïvety throughout.

This collection looks....old. The clothes look like they have that old smell to them. It's interesting that there is maybe a dozen or so looks that are slick and modern, and the rest is verging on costume. The coats at the end are made from an innovative textile, but are ruined by unnecessary decoration. I like the striped skirts and blouses, but loathe the pants. Then there was that yellow set followed by the jacket with the striped trim. Hideous. Someone really needs to step in and tell this man that he needs to edit. There is too much going on, and not in a good way. Less is more!

All a bit random, but I strangely enjoy a lot of this. I love the play with stripes, and wouldn't mind owning one of those opening bombers or even one of the padded jackets. Surprisingly, a lot of the outerwear would in fact look good for/on men. Even the shirts would look pretty louche and gorge.

I don't understand those belts. They do nothing for the look and they have zero actual functionality. And the shoes are bit of a let down.

It is once again an exercise in seeing through the styling and understanding Ghesquière's taste levels each season as it is always in a state of flux. It is a bit heavy for Spring/Summer so understand the stuffiness.

Its very camp mid 80s , blouson jackets, frumpy skirts , herringone bone suits, those ugly Romeo Gigli shoes which my sister had lol ( I use to call them Mary Poppin shoes then) . I like the first 6 looks , even though its camp for my taste, its the first time I have seen NG have so much flou in his clothes , so its good he is moving to light air fabrics. I think in better prints, the loose blouses and skirts can somewhat work . Overall, I feel NG has exhausted himself at Vuitton, he needs to move on.

Also was wondering why the set felt really familiar. Reminiscent to Céline's Spring 2016 show, and Margiela's Spring 2019 Men's show but EVERYTHING is vac-sealed in orange plastic.

Not too far off being a location in the original Mirror's Edge too :grinningwsweat:

This all looks so old old old….. sad as Nicolas is talented… but i guess everyone at some point stops being fresh. Getting old is a b..tch.

he is really challenging the vuitton woman every time. But they somehow always eat it up, ive seen a lot of the oversized hardware pieces around. i wonder if the first 2 jackets are made of leather and the last 3 coats look amazing. Don't see what's old about the pieces but i do see most of these aging beautifully. I'd like a mens version of the white vest with what looked like a peach houndstooth trousers.

Hang on. Someone enlighten me pls. I thought he’d left and the black guy from Happy song took over?? Pharrell something

Pharrell just took over the men's division from the in house design team at the start of the year. Follow on from them brand having Virgil Abloh at the helm prior. The appointment was PR-ed to filth.

Not surprised at the confusion though, seeing as they used stills from Pharrell's debut as the thumbnail for the live stream prior to the show happening which makes no sense. The difference between men's and women's LV is astronomical, much like Dior.

i think the big difference kind of compliments each other if they sell unisex versions of both collections. You get some hypebeast merch from pharrel and actual fashion from nicholas. I dont mind it and usually how a louis vuitton couple would look like anyway.

I love the way Nicolas challenges me to consider new propositions for my wardrobe.. he is the ultimate designer for someone who wants to dress up and make a bold statement. I get why some people don’t like such a strong point of view clothing but there are many other brands to feed that taste.. these clothes don’t look vintage in construction or technique.. those jacket in the end in some kind of laser cut tweed look so light in movement and the top in look 27 seems to hang from the sleeves.. pretty interesting in my opinion

I agree I kind of feel this balance between men’s and women’s proposition is fantastic and they compliment each other.. I felt this way way too when Hedi and John were at Dior.. didn’t Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt both wear the brand for their wedding?

Sorry, I don't know how to embed IG post, but I am always interested in a designer's reference.

That jacket was the best look here and it being YSL is honestly an embarassment
