extract:

"Joan of Arc is an unlikely fashion icon, but designers today are increasingly channeling the spirit of warrior women. Love & War: The Weaponized Woman takes an unprecedented look at the influence of armor and other military styles on fashion. But it’s not all chain mail and camouflage. Love & War is the first exhibition to suggest that modern women’s fashion is profoundly inspired by what might be called the discourse of silk and steel, as designers reference both armor and lingerie.

An exhibition at FIT. September 9 - December 16, 2006

Sounds very much up my alley, especially with what's been inspiring me lately.

i think this is the "sauvage-chic" thing that has been happenning laterely-which is interesting, since they do quote Ms. Prada herself, who was one of the leaders of this harder, warrrior-inspired look. Prada showed bustiers paired with fur-trimmed everything!

..looks like an interesting exhibition.

thank you for posting this. I go to FIT so I will post a review of the exhibit after I view it. I'm always excited for a new exhibition, very inspiring and most of them are nicely done.

thanks nqth to posting :)

and interesting way to show ...

very interested to know what items they will include in the show...
could be amazing or VERY disappointing imo...

i guess it would be worth going just to see that issey miyake up close and in person...

...

thx nqth!!!!!

Sounds interesting to me! I definitely think it is the trend now, one way or another.

^ in New York, USA ;)

i'll ask for the catalogue since i find this exhibit very 'contemporary' , thanks for bringing this in ngth :flower:

'amazons' and warrior women seem to be influencing fashion lately

no chicks with guns? i think chicks with guns and samurai swords are hot. at least metallic/ploymer guns, wooden gun parts are just not cool.

That Miyake brestplate is seriously making me want to make a breastplate of my own.

It's so strong, and yet the fact that it follows the curves of a woman's body makes it oddly sensual.

Im still waiting and waiting and waiting^_^ would love to know what you think and how it was.
ngth thanks for posting:flower:

That Miyake piece is gorgeous. Has everyone visited this exhibition yet?

hey annamaria! thanks for bumping the thread. I had completely forgotton to post something.

I am impressed with the exhibition. There are a few pieces that are very much worth visiting. The Issey Miyake bustier being one of them. I am in fashion illustration and the museum has allowed us to draw any of the pieces which has been wonderful. There is a beautiful dress by Boudicca that I am doing my final project on.

I think they have changed it a bit since the opening because some of the pieces had to be returned. However, if you are in NYC, I think it is well worth the visit. I feel lucky to have it at my school, as many students from parsons are also doing projects from it.

so cool! I love the influence of warrior women. For me it represents all the many facets of the psyche....not the literal styles of these women. It's about their strength but also their fragility. Which both she and Boudica were both about.

God,that Boudicca is just incredible!! And somebody questioned why they were doing HC?! No way.....

My best friend goes to FIT. I need to go check this out/visit her. ^_^

and pretty amazing thing how postmodern world mixes both female and male genders in one image/dress/picture/body. maybe we really feel that two genders are not enough, as we already have too many identitys for that. maybe dress really can give us a new identity each time we wear it...
the idea of military uniform, that incredible Boudicca, Issey Miyake and Paco Rabbane wedding dress in one wardrobe seams very exciting to me^_^
Love and War
as in the real life;)
TheKiwi go and see! your friend and the exhibition and tell us all about that! as Mle said: it's well worth the visit^_^

Me too! It's like candy. Wow, I wish I lived in NYC. I love this style, very strong and masculine.
