The cabaret scene in pre-war Berlin provided the gritty inspiration behind Mira Vukovic's collection for Mad Cortes. And just as the city's smoke-filled bars offered a sweet respite from the cold politics outside, Vukovic's presentation also provided an optimistic and tantalising escape from fashion reality. Not that this latest line-up isn't wearable. On the contrary, the designer's treatment of her favourite shades of ivory, nude and vintage boudoir pink came in the form of pretty little panelled tops and divine drop-waisted dresses - the kind of sophisticated pieces a cooler sort of girl would assemble for going out, either by day or night. Her angelic dresses, like mini goddess gowns in ravishing Pre-Raphaelite hues, were composed of draped and gathered layers of the finest silks, all sweetened with delicate details including flyaway frills and tiny sashes that crisscrossed around the waist. Enchanting.
