Yeah...I just feel like fashion films will never, ever truly replace the catwalk show. You never are able to truly see the clothes the way you should. This is why the runway will always be the be-all-end-all.
As a supplemental marketing tool? Sure. Give us a film. But a film alone always leaves more to be desired.
Also, I think this production doesn't help Galliano's clothes. What was so electric about his Dior and his namesake label during the 00's was that these oftentimes very literal historical garments were contrasted with glamazon models like Gisele or Carmen, they were shown on the mirrored runway with dramatic lighting, and they were shown with blaring, ingenious, infectious remixes of pop music by Jeremy Healy. It gave the historical influences a whole new reason to exist and a whole new relevance and desirability.
This is far too literal. I want to see those pilgrim jackets in a new context...I don't want to see them in Jamestown circa 1619 on famished models.
