Maison Margiela S/S 2022 Paris | the Fashion Spot

Maison Margiela S/S 2022 Paris

I'm not watching that. I preferred the theatrics on the actual runway shows.

Wish he'd just go back to his namesake brand.

I hate everytime they made a film instead of a show. Please show us the clothes unless you make a fashion p*rn.

A bad play. False dance, false jumps.
No space to imagine yourself into that precious pieces because they are wore in so false way.
I a catwalk runway you can see yourself through the mistery and charm of models being themselves even with the season mood.
So desirable pieces lost into a cheap theater, full of boring cliches.

LOL, they can leave the videos for billboards and in store screens.

I'll try to get through this when I've caught up on everything else but it's not holding my attention even if the clothes are good. I don't know.

I laughed so hard at this video, even though I skimmed through it in 40 seconds.

This video is the perfect embodiment of people, who wear Margiela, Helmut Lang, Ann Demeulemeester, Raf Simons, and then they judge and ridicule those, who wear "mainstream" luxury brands, even though wearing any of those brands doesn't make you even a tidbit more fashionable or knowledgeable about fashion. After they finish their "judgement", they go to their shabby chic apartments, put up a Led Zeppelin or Klaus Nomi records, and only post underground contemporary art on their social media.

I don’t feel like watching all that. I’m so annoyed bc I saw the look book stills of each individual look clearly with a backdrop and everything months ago. And they won’t even release that?

Plus! They already did the entire buy for this collection. Wayy before today. Before anyone could even see what they liked. No pre-orders. AND. It is terribly expensive. Coats are like 6-$9,000. That sweater made of the squares is $9,900 USD. Every garment including shoes they only made a couple in each size in very limited sizing. For the entire US. ANDD I heard through the grapevine that Galliano wants to up Margiela’s “prestige” to the level of Chanel. Give me a break.

Be nice

In Vogue.com they have posted gifs...which makes me very dizzy when I see them!

I am beginning to think Galliano should go back to rehab...

Not that it makes this any better lol but if you wanna read the show notes here they are

Also if you want the lookbook (not clear looks, just stills from the video) and the matching look descriptions just message me. Too big/complicated to post

I’ve read this text on a delayed commute, and quite honestly this is the only time anyone should read that. This word soup is as disappointing as the collection. Stop trying to make inverted snobbery happen.

Ugh. John. This isn't working.

So many individual pieces that are so strong and beautiful and interesting and so carefully thought through and designed and produced...and it's all lost in too much styling and this bad video production. I've consistently found his BTS videos where he's talking about the collection and showing the process far more interesting because you actually get to see the beautiful garments.

Truthfully, he could take a page from Olivier's book this season...I really think this would look better on nice mannequins if you're not going to do a runway show. I want to see the clothes. I'm not here to watch a student film. Everyone likes to talk about the runway show being dead...they've been saying that for decades...and yet, nothing has been able to match it. Ever. So, can we stop pretending like these substitutes are working? Or that they're viable alternatives?

I am sorry but I think you are very much overestimating the situation, the reality is : those ppl who make the judgements, they buy zara and their favorite music is THE XX, then their favorite art is Warhol of course.

John’s Margiela really exhausts me. It’s too complicated and « magpie » for my tastes. Margiela tended to be more streamlined and futuristic in my eyes and this is the polar opposite.

I think John just needs his own label back.

Just looking at Olivier Theyskens who started to progress in his namesake label, I hope John will get his name back one day or Diego Della Valle should have called him because Schiaparelli is the perfect brand for John while Margiela is not a brand that he would work out eventually. And I do love some of the pieces from his margiela artisanal line but overall the whole project is too painful to look at like he is trying so hard to incorporate the Margiela codes.

The video is such a turn-off; couldn’t make it to even a minute. John remains hugely talented and skilled to this day— and that he’s the last remaining of the holy trinity of titans Gaultier/McQueen/Galliano; designers that transported us to another time, place, era and sometime, worlds. So I tend to be more forgiving of his trespasses like this annoying flop video. And with such an imperial history in the industry, it’s almost forgivable when he (…or someone like Rei) start to indulge in such fcukery— but they need to be told when their sh!t stinks. I wished he had just presented his strength and conviction of design in a show format like the ones he debuted with for this brand, that would highlight why he’s still such a force of fashion. (And if he still wishes to indulge in these obnoxious videos as a extra, then by all means…)

Noticed that John seems always at his best when he’s got nothing to his name and something to prove— and humble: Much like back in the day when he didn’t have the money to produce the garments— let alone a budget for a show and cast. But with the help of friends, he conjured his most stunning and simple offering and show at that grand old home of the socialite whose name escapes me now. But once he gained his fame and fortune at Dior, some of his final shows were so gaudy and overwrought, they resembled a Vegas mess rathe than anything remotely of his signature. And again— his debut at Margiela was impressive and still humble and simple. …Now, he seems to be falling back into his old habit of overwrought indulgences rathe than showing the designs. I hope it’s not a sign of things to come (again) from these video presentations.

If it were in a catwalk fashion show with guest stand up, and cinematography cameras catching every angle, will we love it more?
