If only that were true! My wardrobe and my bank account would be in better shape.

I find COS to be too affected and over designed and UNIQLO too basic and flat. Uniqlo U perhaps but that's not always as great as it should be.

Personally I love Margaret Howell and I covet her clothes. They fabrics are fantastic and they're beautifully made. As usual, this is the same but different. No complaint from me. Sadly I don't even think there are any stockists for it in NYC at the moment. Her big business is UK and Japan.

Styling by Beat Bolliger is exquisite as always,

Wake me up when someone tells her this is 2019 and not 2006.

I kept staring confused on why it all looks so summery, and where are the coats and layers. Ugh, IT IS S/S and I'm so out of touch. Maggie in the winter is where it's at imo...

The thing about her is that even the seemingly least desirable stuff looks so yummy in stores and then you put it on and it feels right, you wear it over and over and it has nothing to do with a freakin' year, what more do you want. Meanwhile, you look at these COS ads and you're like 'hm, that's not bad' because.. great marketing!, then you walk into the store and lo and behold, a bunch of junk that feels made out of a grocery store bioplastic bag with some poor man's Akris in mind. I always have to remind myself it's all about the sheer glittered socks and the rings (rings last me 3 weeks max before I lose them, they better be COS so I can move on with my life).

I wish she hadn't stopped at one skirt in that deep yellow.. yellow done right is so needed, although.. it's so theatrical she's probably not the right person to expect it from. Anyway, the creamy stuff and that shirt for the first days of Spring.. ..

These days, "boring" is my favorite word in fashion. It's not a four-letter word .

True, a lot of these looks can be duplicated by a trip to Uniqlo and/or COS, but, seriously, if I had the financial means to buy Margaret Howell, I probably wouldn't waste much time at either of my local Uniqlos (with their horribly understaffed dressing rooms).

Extra brownie-points to her for not playing into that silly "runway vs. real-life" game.

These are just staples imo. Not enough to keep the fashion conversation going, but that's fine. That's her niche. Anti-fashion fashion. And normally I appreciate it for what it is, but this time I'm not particularly impressed.
As we've seen with LFW Men's, the tide is turning in terms of style sensibility and very soon Howell's effortless aesthetic will be pit against everyone else's. Should be interesting to see how she'd deal with that.

^ she was doing the exact same in the days of orange tans, glitter, low-rise jeans and Paris Hilton. I'm sure she's enjoying the favorable position her label has ended up in in the always moving trends/fashion cycle (excess followed by simplicity and back to excess) but for someone that has built a label with very little interaction with 'the tide'.. I doubt she'll start scratching her head now in her 70s and with a loyal clientele.

Wait, what? There will always be a place for Howell’s aesthetic no matter how much fashion changes.
