Today she is an undisputed icon of charm, but has always been aware of not being a classical beauty. This led her to develop a personal style that is expressed through vintage clothes found in the marchés aux puces

"I have never felt myself to be a beautiful woman". Words which are hard to believe if they are spoken by Mariacarla Boscono, the most famous Italian supermodel of the last decade.

To meet her in person, however, one is convinced that she is sincere: direct, easygoing, self-deprecating, she hasn't the air of a girl who grew up believing herself to be special. Courted by the biggest names in fashion and photography since she was seventeen, the Roman model, now nearly thirty, still cannot take herself too seriously, and jokes about her work.

"Fashion is a big game of interpretation; I simply try to enjoy myself as much as possible", she admits, sipping a beer in the garden of a restaurant in SoHo, New York. "Sometimes", she adds laughing, "while I am posing for a session wearing impossible clothes, I can't help thinking: "Look what I have to do to earn a crust".

She began her career gradually. After early successes, while still a minor, she could have left school and thrown her lot in with fashion, as the majority of aspiring models do. But her mother wanted her to complete her studies, demanding that she reduce her workload.

"She used to say that I was simpatica, but she never said I was beautiful; quite the contrary. The men in my family are all tall, blond and with green eyes; I was considered a sort of 'Calimero' at home", she recalls. Her face with its strong features does not conform to traditional canons of beauty. In the flesh, she does as immediately striking as one might expect.

For the interview, she turned up without a trace of makeup, in white jeans and T-shirt, black pumps and nails the same colour. However, seeing her walk between the tables, it is easy to recognise the elegant bearing and slender figure of a professional of the catwalks. But to become an icon of charm, has taken time. "I think that in the beginning, some people saw me as a sort of frog", she jokes.

Hell these are even darker than the first pics posted suggested.
But MCB is the queen of darkness and thrives in this atmosphere.

Hottest looking frog I've ever seen. Great interview thanks for posting.:flower:

Whoa, so many new stuff, that's great!! Love the B&Ws from the Italian Vogue ed!
Are there only those two for V Magazine??

I'm so late on this, but her editorial in W is amazing. Her work with Paolo Roversi never fails to impress.
