Markus Huëmer: Unit
www.papermag.com

Unit used to be carried in Seven

From Hintmag archives
www.internetnewsbureau.com
In its first installment in February, Supernova featured Markus Huëmer, a Swiss native who has been working in New York for ten years under the tutelage of established designers like Calvin Klein but is quickly making a name for himself in the underground circuit for his minimal medieval-inspired line, Unit. Huëmer is already expecting an impressive array of editorial attention this Spring in such esteemed publications as Harper's Bazaar and Italian Vogue. Eight original photos by photographer Cleo Sullivan were also presented.

He has a webpage, but it is a little bit annoying, it's just changing pictures

Article from www.jcreport.com:
Shunning the commodification of fashion after paying his dues at the standard Seventh Avenue design houses, Huemer began a quiet and private dialogue between the object and the wearer which, over the years, has morphed into a conversation rife with a potent yet discreet sexuality. His use of traditional materials (jersey, corduroy, fine cottons) is juxtaposed on the human body to reveal and conceal, creating allusions to themes as divergent as sensuality, bondage, privacy, and dislocation. The precision of his cuts display the skills of a gifted tailor intent on reconfiguring classic principles of tailoring. Along with a line of clothing, accessories, and bags for women, which has garnered fans as eclectic as Björk and Eve, Huemer recently launched a smaller men's collection which is developing its own cult of die-hard devotees. Markus Huemer: UNIT is currently available at avant-garde meccas such as Seven in New York, Fidelio in Zurich, and Super Boys Market in Tokyo, but it's only a matter of time until the pieces find their way into more mainstream boutiques. But for a little while longer, the secret is yours to keep.

OK, correction: Seven still sells Huemer

Eh, I liked those first three shirts the best. There were really subtle details that worked well...like the tiny bit of mesh...the rest of the garment was more classy and then there was that bit of mesh insert that changed the whole thing.

very nice, cerfas. love everything in the fourth post.

I like the first 2 in post #3. The sweatshirt is not cut like a normal one and the detail on the salmon colour shirt looks fun.

"Minimal medieval"...I like that ^_^. The fourth post:heart:

I love the way Markus experiments with classical shirting.

I wish I could find more of those images from that installation you posted,Cerfas. The one from Paper...that collection looks rather interesting.

The rebels & saints hooded sweat top on sevennewyork is seriously hawt!

The prices aren't too bad either, thought they would be higher!

 this

and the girl with the blouse in the middle of post one:heart:.... there is something so weird about it in its tidyness.

Yeah Scott! the image was so small and kind of grainy, wanted to see a big high resolution image of that.
TrophyBrown, I think on the website it said the hood is detachable, too. Although if I owned it I wouldn't want to wear it without the hood buttoned up tightly like that, heh.
Annak, that is my favorite photo out of all those. The way the sleeves are done, it's so simple but really effective.
I love the cape dress. It reminds me of being a little kid.

Yeah that was the expo(correction, there)Seven held during Paris défilés A/W 2002. I remember Videofashion! covering that-they interviewed Tess Giberson(Belgian artist Anne Daems created an amazing short film for her) and As Four...but somehow I don't recall Markus at all being interviewed or even being shown.

Great stuff...a bit dissapointed in the sizes offered on Seven though...

anyone knows why some of the male models are not wearing pants ?

Whizkit--it may be because he didn't make pants for that collection.
The female models aren't wearing pants either
