Sorry I never got back to you - I'm still looking for the perfect bag but I think this is it! Do you think it could be made in leather? I was thinking about getting a beat up old leather skirt (or jacket) froma thrift store and having a go...

yes it can be done in leather.. you just need a good enough sewing machine that will sew through leather.. I know that with my home machine.. it didn't work so well... that's why I got an industrial machine.

Well, if I find the perfect pice of leather I could always ship it to you. OT, There is a pub in Edinburgh which has leather seats, really old and vintage-y looking leather. Man I could have gone crazy with a knife (but didn'tlol:
