Fall 2004, these basically sum up the whole collection:

It's yay for a few stuff and them nay for a lot.... Most are all deja vu. I like the details on the jacket, very exquisite, more skinny pants..... :woot:

For example, this is just so  redundant:

I like the deep cut camis though.

There are threads for him already with many of these pictures in them, just remember to use the search function next time :flower:

As for Masaki, his collections as a whole are somewhat dissapointing..
although there are good ideas.
I think that if he can develop his style further, he could be one to watch.

I'd be interested to see his a/w 05-06.

Arturo, thanks again for reminding us of Matsushima. I really like his transformed trenchcoat, biker and some other jackets. The details are always a pleasure to study, despite of previous posts. :flower:

I can't wait to see his 05-06 a/w collection but it's yet to no avail.

i like it, im feeling the adrogynous look of short shorts on men.

and i like the selection of models (esp last year's collection) ;)

there is some great stuff here. I agree it's nothing new but I still find it quite polished and VERY nice. I mean you can do 'old' stuff and still make it look nice though I feel that there are like two contrasting ideas in the fall collection and I'm not crazy about the rick owens/helmut lang rip offs but like I said. some VERY nice things in these collections I think

Agreed with Kimkhuu and Meg, the clothes are VERY nice, but referencing other designers is VERY direct, which I think is a no-no for such a new designer. It's basically Helmut Lang meets Hedi Slimane plus Dolce and Gabanna suits...

Some of the items don't measure up in real life as well.

Those jackets have an extremely odd cut.

is anyone else thinking that this guy would be great to step into the helmut lang slot?...seems like a natural fit...

wonder if he can do womenswear at all...but then...perhaps prada will hire separate design teams...who knows?...

If you look at the collections he did , before his hiatus of 2 or 3 years , prior to A/W 04/05 , they were way out at the wildest end of the stratosphere - jackets with HUGE millefeuille collars , ultra - tight short - jacketed double breasted tweed suits , with drainpipe ankle length trousers - very Dickensian !!!

He had a shop in Paris , but it closed - these last collections are MUCH more commercial , but the ' pushing the boundaries ' has gone .

Every designer has to get an idea from somewhere, you can't say that just because they made jeans they're Levi's rip-offs. Maybe Helmut Lang and Masaki have the same style, doesn't mean either of them is copying the other.

I agree with you, Meg, in every other sense. His designs are not extravagant, they're not overly original, but there are nice details and some very original pieces. As I said before, what I love is the simplicity, the elegance. I can perfectly see myself in the shorts with a collared shirt and a tie, in fact, I think that outfit suits me the best, even though I regularly despise shorts. I don't think Masaki Matsushima is a rip-off - he's been around for 10 + years and has made wonderful pieces, and in my opinion is a marvelous designer in his own right. Also, very few other designers use opthalmic eyewear as much and as well as he does in their collections. I love the simplicity and the look of his eyeglasses as individual pieces, but also as they match with an outfit as a whole. His fragrances are also very original, not the common Gucci, Calvin Klein, and Dolce & Gabbana, seemingly repeated scents.

Also, for me, very few other designers can use bright yellow, red, and bright green and still have me like it - I'm extremely monochromatic in tastes, and for some reason the colors he used in a few jackets really attract me.

I love the feel, the look of his collections - there's something in his clothing that touches me far more than in the superficial way, almost in a deep emotional, ideal life level.

(And yes Raijin, "his clothing falls short in real life", that's the millionth time you've said that, no need to repeat..just saying, don't take this in the offensive way..:flower:)

He does do womenswear, and his womenswear is mixed with the menswear collections. I read that he did a women's bridal collection where the models did strip tease.:woot:

I just omitted them because I find his women's clothing horrendousm, or at least the ones I saw, but his bridal collection, from what I've heard, is nice..I can post later if you like.:flower:

That's true, but one thing is approaching a certain style and another thing is making a really obvious reference, such as the outfit below (it is a painfully obvious Helmut Lang ripoff).

(I just did a search and there's only one other post with Masaki Matsushima pictures, very few of them, and very small)

Here are his two fragrances (There are more, but these are the most popular ones and they can be found in Sephora and other stores) with their descriptions:

Masaki Matsushima's unique blend of ancestral Japanese traditions and modernist trends have made him the darling of the European fashion world. Mentored by illustrious fashion designers, Masaki is the leader in a new generation of fashion "engineers" and has been invited by New York University and MOMA for a series of lectures and exhibitions. His unique sense of concept, color, and shape has been translated into a fragrance collection as unique as the woman who wears it.

Mat; Male

Masculinity from within was the inspiration behind Mat; Male. Believing that tenderness and masculinity can coexist, an intense maleness exudes from the spicy character of cardamom from Madagascar and fresh grapefruit. These are balanced with the softer, life-giving nature of bamboo sap and baises roses, and smoothed with a finish of white glazed leather, cedar wood, and teak wood. These elements are then combined with Mat;'s signature lotus flower, proving that sensuality is a component of masculinity.

Notes:
Cardamom, Tea Leaves, Fresh Grapefruit, Bamboo Sap, Baises Roses (Black Currant and Bulgarian Rose), Watermelon, Squeezed Mint, Parsley Leaves.
Style:
Masculinity and tenderness...what it means to be a man.

Mat;

Created from a combination of traditional Japanese ingredients, Mat; is a scent that makes the wearer "feel good." Mat; contains complex oils that work with the skin rather than on its surface, to create a "skin-scent." Made for the woman who is particular about who she lets inside her world - only those allowed close enough shall experience her scent.

Notes:
Bamboo, Mango Pulp, Tea Leaves, Juniper Berry, Parsley Leaves, Blackcurrant, Watermelon, Squeezed Mint, Lotus Flower, White Rose, Water Rose, Water Jasmine, Crystal Musk, Reed Wood.
Style:
Free-spirited, feminine, and glamorous.
