The label (?) miss ashida...

(The green dress at the bottom!)
I like it :P I'm sort of dissapointed that they didn't use more asian models - they're absolutely gorgeous
the green dress is lovely :woot: [/b][/quote]
I know, it's kind of ironic that they aren't doing more to promote their country's own models...

yeah, it's really off that they don't use more asian models (asian women are beautiful!), but i can see why as japan is obsessed with the west and the western look. i mean, they pay $200 a bottle for skin whitener! the western women in their shows makes it stand out more.

thanks for the comments guys, you have no idea how excited i am to go there, i grew up in a small stagnat country town and im ready to feel stimulated! :flower:

if anyone is interested in japanese style, i recommend a site i came across:

Kind of sad... I mean, I like seeing Western models as well, but if you've already got gorgeous models of your own...
Anyway, here is another great designer I just thought I'd share.

Not sure of her background, but some her designs are very cool. Plus, she actually uses a lot of Asian models! :woot:

Next Rei, Yohji..info on these designers!

I was reading Surface Magazine today and there was an article about several designers that they considered to be the next Junya, Rei, Yohji, etc. These included Jens Laugesen and Alistair Carr, which most of us know about. However, there were also very nice pictures from the collections of the following designers.

Gentaro Noda of Iliad
Noriko Fukushima
Harumi Fukuda
Saduharu Hoshino of Es
Chinami Kamishima of Kamishima Chinami
Soichiro Ito

Does anyone have any info on these designers, such as websites, etc? They're really hard to find!

Thx,
Arturo

I read that article too.
Sadaharu is the most talented of the bunch, I think they have a LONG way to go before being the next junya or rei however.

Yes, from what I can recall from the pictures, Es was my favorite.

Do you have any info on them..and did u see any of their clothes in Japan or Hong Kong, raijin? If you did, how was it?

Thx :flower:

Honestly,I hope there won't be another Rei,Yohji or Junya. In the sense that these newer designers are able to have their own individual style. As I've noticed there are alot of wannabes. But as far as impact on the industry...I don't think it will happen again. At least, not in such a bombarding revolutionary form. Jun Takahashi is getting there but not quite and of course he is another Kawakubo protogé.

Also, there are quite a number of designers coming up so I think it's a bit of a stretch to name these designers as the "next". Maybe the next wave but not the next Rei and such.

I agree with scott.

I think all the designers in the article are very talented, I don't think they are going to be the next Rei or Yhoji though, in the sens that they are nto going to ahve such a strong influence.

I agree with both of you on that matter. I don't compare Jens Laugesen to Yohji at all. But, that's what the magazine called them in the sense that, from what I understood, these would be the next designers to attract the crowd that is already into Yohji, Junya, and Rei.

I think they just might have a big impact, such as those designers. I don't remember which but one or more of those are huge in Japan. Yohji was once at that level, wasn't he? We can't underestimate their potential, but we can doubt it.

Forgive me..not "can't", we "shouldn't" undersestimate their potential.

:flower:

Yohji didn't really operate a local japanese label for very long before he gained recognition on the intertional circuit, however.

The designers that do sometimes become 'stuck' in mediocrity with the exception of a few.
You see a lot of designs influenced by other designers.
Maybe they have some intersting ideas that they don't develop very much.
Still using the base ideas of the previous generation (Rei,Yohji, Issey)

There were a couple people like this in the article like Soichiro Ito, who runs the label SOE.

I do think a few of them could do well in the future, like Harumi Fukuda and Sadaharu.

Here some website on Gentaro Noda for Iliad (not much there but a few pictures) http://translate.google.com/transla...search?q=Gentaro+Noda+of+Iliad&hl=en&lr=&sa=G

It may be of interest that SOE by Soichiro is in fact a streetwear label.

Thx, EllaH :D

From the picture I saw in the magazine, it didn't seem to be a streetwear label..oh well.
