At the resort showing of BCBG Max Azria and Max Azria, creative director Lubov Azria shared with ELLE.com how the collections differ. "We have three types of customers: the connoisseur, a career woman who wears BCBG; the visionary," who likes the more directional Max Azria collection; and "the socialite, like Nicole Richie—she likes everything."

BCBG Goes Beyond Nautical for Resort '07
By Erin Skrypek

Organic silhouettes and controlled volume is what Max Azria and his wife-slash-Creative Director Lubov Azria have in mind for when their BCBG and Max Azria clients go seaside for their holidays this year.

While it is almost inevitable that every resort collection will have some sort of nautical element to it, whether it simply be crisp white cotton or navy blue fabric or a detail like rope laced sailor style through silver loops (all of which BCBG Resort contained), the overall feeling of the collection, presented at the company's Seventh Avenue headquarters on Tuesday, June 6th, was purely fresh and interestingly clean.

Stiff cotton box pleats created a new kind of volume across the chest of one dress and its grosgrain ribbon straps lent simplicity to a look that might have otherwise been considered a too complicated for a beach holiday. Another piece that worked well was a marine blue cotton, asymmetric dress with one voluminous sleeve and a self-belt - uncomplicated, but still interesting.

Given the fact that people don't buy Resort just for the resorts – they are wearing them straight into spring - they need to be somewhat remarkable. With so many designers banking on the "nautical" theme these past couple of seasons, you can bet Resort will gain even more popularity on the streets.

Aside from BCBG, Lubov Azria also creatively directs Max Azria Collection, also on display for editors at the presentation, was quite a bit different from BCBG.

"We have three kinds of customers," she explained. "We have the 'Connoisseur,' who is classy and contemporary. We have the 'Socialite,' who is like Nicole Richie and always wants what's new. These two are basically our BCBG customer. Then we have what we call our 'Visionaries,' the clients who think outside of the box. They are cultivated and very fashion forward. These are our Max Azria Collection clients. This is what we show on the runway."

The mix of volumes and the organic shapes were in accordance with one another in the respective collections, but the color choice – BCBG's clean, crisp, "Nantucket" palette vs. Max Azria Collection's Havana-inspired color prints – were decidedly different. Both collections had pleats and over-exaggerated, wide-leg trousers, but the Collection's shapes were more brazen and definitely pushed the fashion envelope.

Abstract pleating, super-large volume and rusty but vibrant Cuban colors and '70s-like prints may not be for everyone, but as Mrs. Azria said, it will definitely make her "Visionaries" happy.

I really like those clothes so far and the comment on their clients (esp. the 'Socialite' group) is just too funny.

I don't understand why they are having a resort collection when their stock constantly changes year round as they aren't a 'high fashion' label. I don't know if this is them trying to move into that market or just trying to use resort as publicity for their collection or a bit of both.

i really like this one...its simple but elegant. i really like the patterns and the sandals

I like it too... very wearable. Not too sure about the leggings worn under pants tho...
