>>InStyle readers, meet Melissa Rubini! The ultra stylist is now our full time Style Director, which means she’ll be the one carefully picking out the clothes you see on our future covers and fashion spreads. (Dream job, right?) Her past work is a repertoire of fashion achievements—she was the Fashion Director of Bullet magazine, worked on eight campaigns for Prada, and styled some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Blake Lively, Scarlett Johansson, and Katie Holmes. So, what’s inside the mind of this fashion superstar? Scroll down to find out her favorite shoot locations, beauty essentials, and her “if-you-only-remember-one-thing” fashion advice.
Where is the most exotic place you’ve ever done a shoot?
“I have worked on photo shoots in amazing locations including Russia, Thailand, Maldives, Africa, South America, many islands of the Caribbean, all over Europe and the United States. I am not absolutely sure what the most exotic place was but one of my favorites will always be Paris.”
Who is the celebrity who wowed you the most?
“They are all amazing in their own way. Sometimes for their personal sense of style, sometimes for their unbelievable talent, in other times for their projects and wish to make our world a better place.”
What is your go-to weekday look?
“I gravitate towards the classics with a contemporary feeling. A beautiful form fitted dress with a pair of stilletos will take me from work to a dinner with my husband or a meeting at my daughter’s school.”
What are three things you always pack for a shoot?
“Passport, iPad, and a picture of my family.”
What beauty essentials do you stash in your everyday bag?
“I love trying new products but always have my Christian Dior BB Cream ($58 at nordstrom.com) and Nars Jungle Red lipstick ($26 at narscosmetics.com) with me. They are my new basics.”
What’s the most important style tip you’ve learned from your job?
“Don’t always believe fashion trends.”<<
