Metrosexuals

Great way to put it! I'll have to remember that...
I guess I learn a little bit about people everyday. Even in an FS posting.

I think its quite crap when gay men are put into a steryotype saying "gay people liek fashion art and cooking' ebcuas its simply not true. Shoving steryotypes on people is wrong becuas youa re trying to force them into something theya re not. This is not to say gay men dount liek theas thigns. But i also think that saying straight men dount like fashion and art is wrong, becuas obviously soem do, but many are conditiond intot hinking a certin way.

I m bisexual, i like art and fashionbut I despise steryotyeps and refuse to play into them.

well put.... we cannot put people into molds...

we have to go with what feels right and i dont think worry about it....
i hate many "feminine" activities but I never stop to think why or what that means....

can i ask a bisexual question... do you only date other bisexuals or does that not matter to you and to the people you date. it would not have bothered me in my dating days and in fact i think i would consider it quiet attractive... if it is too personal tell me to cram it. :P

sh*t! I just came back from Uni and I find myself with this discussion??!! we are in land with freedom of speech, I can say what I think, if you dont agree, Im not going to push you to agree with me, that's all. I dont need signs or big definition to understand anybody's opinion ;) ...Everybody has freedom of speech here, so, dont get mad or offened about it, If I did... whatever

Alejandro, sorry buddy. I, like you, was expressing my opinion.

:o :o :o I first heard this term while watching Miss Match a few weeks ago and I wanted to gag then just as much as I do now. :o :o :o Metrosexuals? Oh please.

I can't believe that people are stopping and putting labels on everything now. Why is it that a straight man can't just have style now? If someone has style and is into fashion and they are a man they automatically have "gay traits " (what in the hell is a gay trait anyway?)

My boyfriend is very into style and fashion. I think its harder to shop with him then with a group of my girlfriends. That doesn't make him gay nor does it make him "metrosexual". It just makes him a guy with good taste.

I know a few gay guys who have the worlds worst taste in clothing and I know a few gay guys that dress to the nines. Being into fashion doesn't mean you are gay.

If you look at it that way, any female who doesn't care about style and fashion is a lesbian.

I don't understand why labeling actions, behaviours, thoughts, and opinions is such a popular thing. Just think of how happy of a world we would live in if people just quit labeling!

Lele: I don't want to argue either it's simply that Opera, Cooking and Fashion are not parts of gay culture. All of Britain's top chefs are straight, I don't know about America's.
I must agree with this statement. Cooking is not a "gay" or "womanly" thing to do. Like PrinceofCats stated, 'cooking' is a tough job that is taken very seriously in Europe and other parts of the world.

I also want to thank everyone for keeping it civil.

I really want to reiterate I was not in any way saying that the stereotypes of gay culture are correct only that they are present and easy to adopt and borrow as they are with queer eye.... i don’t think that masculine and feminine hobbies and likes indicate sexual orientation and think it sucks that it is taken that way. I was just stating what I thought were popular notions and do not in anyway agree with them.

Meet the metrosexual
He's well dressed, narcissistic and bun-obsessed. But don't call him gay.

How do I know? Well, perhaps it takes one to know one, but to determine a metrosexual, all you have to do is look at them. In fact, if you're looking at them, they're almost certainly metrosexual. The typical metrosexual is a young man with money to spend, living in or within easy reach of a metropolis -- because that's where all the best shops, clubs, gyms and hairdressers are. He might be officially gay, straight or bisexual, but this is utterly immaterial because he has clearly taken himself as his own love object and pleasure as his sexual preference. Particular professions, such as modeling, waiting tables, media, pop music and, nowadays, sport, seem to attract them but, truth be told, like male vanity products and herpes, they're pretty much everywhere.

thanks for the article Trean.

see..........metrosexual's dont have to be straight.......they can also be gay and straight

metrosexual just imply's that you are very trendy and on the city scene

Narcissism seems to be a key factor as well: you could be very stylish but not in love with yourself.

It seems to be a solely American concept as it gets a bit complicated if you try to export the idea over the atlantic. In the UK the nearest words we have to metrosexual are 'Yuppie' or 'City slicker'.

i dont get what you're saying Princeofcats?

all the 'metrosexual' type american guys i've ever seen seem to be COMPLETELY obsessed with themself

is that what you meant? or the opposite?
because there is NO WAY that american metrosexual's are just stylish and not self obsessed
