Qantas signs Miranda Kerr as new ambassador
Qantas is hoping to distract from last year's PR nightmare with shiny pretty things - namely Miranda Kerr.

The airline is appointing the supermodel as its new ambassador joining John Travolta, Cathy Freeman, Mark Webber, Greg Norman, Mark Schwarzer and John Eales to promote the carrier worldwide.

Signing Kerr is quite a coup for Qantas - in 2009 Richard Branson wanted the underwear model to come on board with Virgin and planned to name a plane after her. But negotiations posed a conflict with her David Jones ambassadorship and fell through. David Jones fully supports her new alliance.

In announcement comes a week after the airline won the ignominious honour of the biggest PR disaster of the year. Social media specialists Cyber Chatter named the grounding of the Qantas fleet by CEO Alan Joyce, stranding tens of thousands of passengers around the world the day after he received a huge payrise, as its number one PR disaster of 2011.

Qantas was also number two on the list for its ill-timed 'Qantas Luxury' Twitter competition, which backfired when thousands of users attacked the airline on the social networking site. The airline made the list a third time after it gave away free airfares to two men who wore blackface for a rugby competition, which it later apologised for.

As well as being a Victoria Secret favourite Kerr is also the global ambassador for Earth Hour and has her own skincare line Kora Organics. The girl from Gunnedah is flying high.

The official announcement will be made at a lavish cocktail party tonight at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel as part of G'day USA festivities with high profile Aussie stars like Rachel Taylor, Ryan Kwanten, Jacki Weaver, Anthony LaPaglia and director Phillip Noyce.

Miranda Kerr Celebrates Being Named Qantas Ambassador

Stepping out to tend to her newly acquired work duties, Miranda Kerr was spotted at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, California on Thursday evening (January 12).
The Aussie beauty joined alongside John Travolta for the Qantas Airways Spirit of Australia Party after having just been named as the airline's ambassador.
Honored with her new title, Miss Kerr said in a statement, "I grew up with Qantas which is such an iconic Australian brand. I’m proud of my Australian heritage and I’m so excited that I will now be able to represent Australia’s premium airline around the world. "I travel frequently and from the moment I step onboard a Qantas flight I feel at home."
Qantas boss Alan Joyce was thrilled with the choice for his airline, as he added, "Miranda Kerr is one of the most photographed and recognizable people in the world."

Orlando Bloom & Family: Birthday Hike!

Orlando Bloom is a charming babywearing daddy! The actor, Miranda Kerr, and their 1-year-old son Flynn were spotted going for a hike in L.A.'s Runyon Canyon on Friday morning (January 13). Their dog Sidi even came out for the exercise.
What a nice way to start celebrating Bloom's 35th birthday!
There's lots to be happy about for the family, especially their careers. Kerr has just been named the new celebrity face of Qantas.
At an event yesterday the Victoria Secret model exclaimed, "It is very exciting. Qantas is such an iconic Australian brand and to be an ambassador for them is such an honor. I always fly Qantas, so this (role) is really exciting, what a privilege."

Such an adorable little family!
