MIRANDA Kerr warmed winter in Sydney last night as she sizzled on the catwalk at the David Jones Summer 2008 collections campaign.
The former Gunnedah girl turned international modelling success shined in leading Australian designer names in front of an audience of 650 at the Royal Hall of Industries at Moore Park
From modelling a brilliant pink ruffled cossie from Australian label Jets to open the show, through to making her way down the catwalk in a dazzling champagne coloured beaded Collette Dinnigan mini, she showed a brighter side to summer fashion
It's all very fresh, bright and beautiful," Miranda said.
It was the first time on the catwalk as the star for Kerr as she took over as fashion ambassador from model turned actor Megan Gale.
"I've grown up with these designers and to be coming home and wearing them for David Jones is an honour," she said.
While her boyfriend actor Orlando Bloom was a no-show, Kerr brought in a support team of 15 family members including parents John and Therese, grandparents and cousins to the event.
"It's the first big show I've seen her in and she's great," her father Gunnedah builder John Kerr said.
The Kerr crew had a 5am start from Gunnedah, with just one stop at Maccas at Mudgee on the way to their daughter's debut as the fashion face of david jones.
She was joined on the catwalk by model Louise van de Vorst, who has had attention since hooking up with Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns.
Celebrity and a seriously sexy show that featured a bold carnival feel were the ingredients that David Jones employed at the show last night which comes at a tough time for fashion retailers.
The latest retail figures, released last week showed clothing sales down 8.8 per cent.
With that forecast big fashion retailers such as David Jones are looking for plenty of wow to drive shoppers in store.
And there were plenty of head turning colours and silhouettes in the summer collection.
Sass & Bide, one of David Jones biggest sellers, sent down the cat walk multi-sequin mini dresses and skin tight black gathered pants.
While Alex Perry showed one of the other key trends for summer, full 50's style skirts with cinched in waists.
David Jones general manager of womens wear, David Bush, said swimwear featuring bold pattern and colour, sheer dress and full skirts with cinched in waists were the biggest influences in fashion for summer.
"Essentials this summer are the sheer dress, skirts with a bit of volume and the waist makes a big return," he said.
MIRANDA Kerr dubbed the David Jones' summer launch a "piece of cake", after she stunned VIPs with the store's retail dreams on the runway.

AS if there was any doubt that David Jones darling Miranda Kerr was picture perfect, the star of the show took a wardrobe malfunction - post parade - in her stride last night.
After changing into her after party ensemble (Easton Pearson top, Scanlan and Theodore skirt), all went awry when a champagne almost spoiled the party - drenching her designer duds.
Quickly shaking off the bubbly blunder, Kerr kept on strutting.
Forget about the catwalk catfight, a gracious Megan Gale was loving the view from the front row after handing over the queen of the runway reins to Kerr.
Champagne in hand post-show, a radiant and relaxed Gale was already more superhero than supermodel as she revealed her excitement at working alongside Theresa Palmer in the film Justice League of America.
"We're the only females and we're great mates; I asked her to the show tonight," Gale said.
Palmer, meanwhile, was busy using the fashion extravaganza as a shopping expedition for the upcoming US MTV awards she's attending in September - being hosted by boyfriend Russell Brand. sexy sequinned mini dresses were Palmer's hot pick - along with model Kerr of course.

Explaining the absence of accessories with her black shift dress, Bingle simply flashed her engagement ring and said: "I just need this (the ring)".

I'm not the biggest fan of all of these pictures, i think she has taken better ones but at the same time she still manages to look good
