Are Mischa Barton and Brandon Davis on the rocks? The beautiful star of The O.C. and the hunky heir to a billion dollar oil fortune recently celebrated one year together, but it looks like things may be cooling off. The couple hasn't been photographed together since mid-March and Mischa failed to show up at an April 22 benefit for Brandon's mother's organization, Race to Erase M.S.
"She wants to take a break," a source told the New York Daily News. "She wants to focus on her career...she thinks he's too much of a party boy."
As the current season of The O.C. wraps up, Mischa, 19, is not slowing down. The actress, who was born in London and raised in New York, recently flew to Italy to start production of The Decameron, a new flick co-starring Hayden Christensen based on the Italian masterpiece.
Also, Mischa shelved her stilletos to extend her contract with Keds and become the international spokesperson for the casual shoe company. She will do print, television and billboard advertising as well as appear online, in direct mail, in-store materials and in person for Keds. So while Mischa's career is popping, what's the "party boy" up to?
Brandon, 24, is scheduled to graduate from University of Southern California this week and is starting off as an art dealer. He already flew to Italy to visit Mischa, but the Daily News reports that some wonder if he's trying to throw some glue on a broken relationship. Others are not so cynical. "They're still very much in love," a friend told the paper. Aww.

EXCLUSIVE: MISCHA BARTON SPLITS WITH BOYFRIEND

Mischa Barton and Brandon Davis The O.C.'s Mischa Barton, 19, has split from boyfriend Brandon Davis, 22, an oil heir whom she began dating in April 2004, Star has exclusively learned. The couple parted ways before British-born Mischa headed to Rome in April to begin filming the romantic drama Decameron, an adaptation of a 14th century Italian classic, opposite Star Wars stud Hayden Christensen, 24.

A source tells Star, "They broke up after things began winding down and they started reevaluating their relationship. But it was Mischa who broke it off, for a few reasons: Brandon doesn't have any real money of his own; it's all his family's. She wasn't happy that Brandon didn't have any of his own money, and that he'd have to go to his mother Nancy all the time for money. She thought it was ridiculous that a man would have to go to his mom each month for money."

Also, in the weeks leading up to Mischa's departure for Italy, the source tells Star Brandon began expressing jealousy that she would be shooting a romantic film alongside Canadian-born Christensen -- a concern that Mischa deemed silly.

Mischa's rep, though, tells Star, "Mischa is opting not to comment on her personal life as she's currently on-location in Europe filming a movie during her summer hiatus from The O.C."

Another nail in the relationship coffin was Brandon's lack of high-wattage fame, which Mischa didn't think boded well for her career. Adds the source, "Mischa realized that the only reason he gets any attention is because he was with her. She's better off with another actor, who could do things for her career." Although Brandon is an aspiring actor, it's typically been his association with bolder-faced names that garnered him attention, like his relationships with family friends Paris and Nicky Hilton, who he's since alienated. Brandon grew up with the perennial party girls, who were once related to the Davises by marriage, since the heiress' aunt on their mother Kathy's side was married to Nancy Davis' brother. Brandon's mother Nancy is also Simple Life star Nicole Richie's godmother.

While Brandon alienated himself from the Hilton sisters, he may have been responsible for alienating Mischa -- who previously dated co-star Benjamin McKenzie -- from her co-stars on The O.C., and widening the on-set rift. A source told Star late last year, "Mischa was really tight with the rest of the cast when the show first started, but after she and Ben split up, she really changed her life. Ben and Rachel [Bilson] and Adam [Brody] still go out together -- but not with Mischa. She spends all her time with Brandon."

During their one-year romance, Mischa typically accompanied Brandon to events that were more socialite than celeb. For example, the couple's first major public outing together was in May 2004, at Nancy Davis' 11th Annual Race to Erase MS fundraiser at L.A.'s Century Plaza Hotel. That's gotta the STUPIDEST reason to want to break up with someone.

I think anything said in that article should be taken with a grain of salt considering it is from star magazine . . . I don't doubt that they have broken up but who knows what the real reasons are . . . the stuff written in the article just sounds a little too ridiculous and I doubt Mischa would be dumb enough to say things that make her seem so shallow and petty.
