Pity the poor waistline. For at least the past five years it’s been stuck in a never-ending game of limbo—how low could it go? But much like the trend in trousers (jeans too), the waist is on the rise. This, of course, leads us to our story. Today's subject content differs from other internet entertainment sites (which shall remain nameless) that focus on celebs getting wasted. Instead, we shall celebrate how these tastemakers are getting high-waisted.



The stylistic ease of the high-waisted skirt is reason enough to celebrate this trend. For our money, we like this look best with a top tucked in and accessorized with a belt. Other than that, the trend is yours to customize. If you’re in a 1940’s, secretarty mode, take a cue from Katie Holmes who selected a creamy blouse and fishnet stockings for an LA event. Ashley Olsen went for a more body-conscious, 80’s impression (a little Herve Leger, a little Spring 2007 Proenza), while Mischa Barton paired her high-waisted skirt with a concert tee and fringed jacket for a luxe hippie look. While not for the wide-of-hip, the striped skirt and skinny red belt Jenny Lewis wore to a Jovovich-Hawk collection viewing was one of our favorite looks for its simple modernity.

There are loads high-waisted skirts online right now. Shopbop.com has longer options from Rebecca Taylor ($190) and minis from Mara Hoffman ($176). For a very high-waisted pencil skirt, look for Robert Rodriguez’s take on the trend ($275, ronherman.com).

i think high waisted jeans r great as are high waisted skirts,but she just picked a very unflattering pair

:shock: Not true. Rachel's said in an interview's that Mischa and her double dated with Cisco and Adam all the time. I don't know where their relationship stands now but i'm sure they're still friends. :flower:

I just think the fact that they don't work together anymore has drifted them apart since they don't see eachother as often. Perfectly normal.

OK OK...We get it already. You know anything can be sexy.... but rule of thumb....what may look good on you may not look that great on the next person...high waisted or not! Gotta give the girl credit for trying... she's young and experimental... which is cool...but come on... you honestly think she looks good the other day in those??? I know you've been expressing strong opinions about how great high waisted are.... and they are...they're lovely.... but like anything else...you've got to have the right fit ...
and a nice body helps
 
she should have gone to topshop and picked up K jeans lol.....and they are only 40pounds , some girl posted herself in them and they look fab......these jeans look straight up like diapers. I wore high waisted , and this girl can look damn sexy in them if she wears the right pair...if you watch that 70s show , you will notice Jackie and donna and lorie , wear high waisted jeans and the fit is snug and fit , and with heels , it makes you look really tall than...high waist and flats dont look nice...

somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed:innocent:.......yeah i said she looked bad i those but , that doesnt mean high waist jeans are bad, thats my point..thats all...

Totally agree. I think it's the cut of the leg and the stitching that makes them not seem right. Also the fact that we are so use to hipster jeans it will take a while before they become the "norm".

I hate how other sites like Just Jared are calling them "Mom Jeans". The only thing that makes them similar to mom jeans is that they are on the waist. mom jeans are a totally different cut.

After having seen the last candids I can't help thinking Steve Urkel would be proud of her. Sorry, don't like the outfit at all.
