Miss Sixty S/S 2025 : Bella Hadid by Carlijn Jacobs

I mean she did.
She comes from a rich family in the first place. The same privilege probably helped her sister too…

I don’t get why modeling should be linked to a kind of social justice when it’s already rooted in the unfair nature of beauty.

Stella Tennant didn’t come from poverty either. And she had a quite terrific career.

The only person we could blame for Bella’s career is Carine Roitfeld. If plastic surgery was the gold ticket for a successful career, we would have had more surgerically enhanced successful models, no?

I don’t think it’s fair to compare the Instagirls to legends like Stella and Carla. Sure, coming from a wealthy family wasn’t unheard of for models back then, and that’s not something I take issue with. But riding on your sibling’s coattails? That’s another story entirely. I like Gigi, I respect that she’s been modeling for years and built her career. Bella, on the other hand, feels like she just tagged along for the ride. Imagine if Stella had a completely ordinary-looking sister who went through a full makeover and then used Stella’s connections to book jobs, taking opportunities away from hardworking models who are actually trying to make a living. The same can obviously be said about Kendall, but that's a conversation for a different day. We can agree to disagree, so I'm just going to leave it at that.

In Bella's case, she needed modeling to be recognized in society as beautiful and to gain her mother's approval in this regard. Her mother has a poor modeling career herself.

I though Top models was a term created to recognize successful, always booked, high earnings models. I didn’t know it was a social condition assigned for social justice….

I guess Carla Bruni wasn’t a top model?
And Mariacarla and Stella Tenant and basically every top model of the 60s and 70s..

But Bella was never ordinary-looking, even before her surgery (or surgeries), and she has been working in the industry for a decade now, so this take doesn't make sense. Not to mention, even now that the Hadids and Kendall have slowed down, the other top models still aren't getting major Vogue covers, celebrities are. You're mad at the wrong people, my guy.

Exactly, why are we acting like the modeling industry is the Make-A-Wish Foundation? This industry was never built on meritocracy. If someone is looking for a stable job with a secure income, modeling is definitely not the path to take and everyone knows this.

I understand others point of view, but I stand by opinion. :stuart:

In regards to the campaign, I do like the pictures. Do wish it was someone else? Yes. But it is what it is.

Since we're back on the subject of nepotism, I'd like to share some of my thoughts. It's true that girls like Stella Tennant, Margaux Hemingway, Ines de la Fressange were born into wealth, but there's a huge difference compared to the Hadid, Kardashian or any other influencer's family. First of all, they were intellectuals and people who had accumulated wealth over generations. There's a big difference in how intellectuals feel about the work ethic and how the influencer families feel about it. At the time of the girls' debut, modeling was considered vulgar and a job that didn't offer much security, whereas today it is glamorized.

My second point would be that these girls had the IT factor, Margaux was gorgeous, tall and hardworking, basically the poster girl for many glamorous US magazines, even though she had a very tragic life. Because of this, they were encouraged to continue modeling and were popular with the public.

The Hadids, on the other hand, were raised by a mother who was basically a gold digger (she was around 20 when she had an affair with the much older Julio Inglesias) and a father who was accused of SA and was barely present in his children's lives. Throughout their careers these girls have shown nothing but stupidity in their statements online and in real life, it's only natural that they feel entitled and refuse to work harder even if they aren't complete jerks to the staff who works for them. To me, they were both simple and ordinary looking, if Gigi belonged to SI, VS and other commercial brands, Bella belonged to the J.Law lookalike competition. She's only worked in 2018, her editorials have improved, her walk has improved, but overall she's pretty mediocre in everything she does. She has no range not to mention her whole career is built in a lie and is an insult to the real hardworking models. But we can't change anything, so there's no need to discuss this whole topic any further. Also I'd like to note, since Bella "retired", Anok's rise to fame began, her work is appreciated and she has earned her supermodel status.
