MIU MIU MENSWEAR
MIUCCIA PRADA last night presented her second offering of the season, the brilliant alter-ego of Prada, known simply as Miu Miu. Highly inventive, lightweight and extremely modern, Miuccia once again took menswear on a unique and refreshing outing where underwear became outer-wear - as roles were reversed, fabrics and cuts were turned upsidedown. The finest of the fine pyjama stripes were cut into low crotched long john pants with matching fabric belts and boxy jackets for a totally unique silhouette. Shirts in a myriad of the aforementioned stripes, were graphically patchworked together and worn with only their collar button fastened. Cropped collar-less drawstrung bottomed blousons were worn with short-shorts and criss-cross cobalt, yellow and emerald green sandals. Accessories were kept to a minimum, fine cotton socks, utility-style canvas shoppers, rope bracelets, and intricate kit style suede square-toed sandals. There was something quite military in the air - not military as you would expect, but almost like survival wear. Tyvek, that un-tearable nylon paper effect fabric, was reworked to great effect. Printed to resemble a computerised linen weave in shades of grey, or a Fifties style check in tile and yellow. It's most interesting incarnation came in the form of a cobalt re-stitched cagoule with a gathered yoke, worn as a pair of shorts where the sleeves became the belt that held them into place. Cheesecloth also made a comeback and looked amazing when worn as layered extra-long-sleeved T-shirts under feather-light cotton cashmere mix wide-necked sweaters in bandage or pale grey marl. Seams were torn and inside out, and armholes were cut extra-large - and, judging from the heat in Milan during this menswear period, will be snapped up as soon as they hit the stores. This was Miuccia at her best, always thought-provoking, intelligent and bold. Her choices may not always be understood first-hand, but you can bet your life that as soon as you begin to reassess what you have just seen, her collections are the ones that stand the test of time and fashion. A lot of really desperate styling, as usual with miuccia. i really hate how forced the eccentricity looks.

I think I like it better than the Prada collection, which is flipped for me, as Im not really that big on some of the Miu Miu stuff.

the rieview sounds excellent. longjohns and long t-shirts...i like that a lot! long t-shirts are definitely on my "to buy" list right now..:flower:

>>the collection...not so much...seeing all of it. it's very banal, all the pieces look basic and not worth the money. i think the designers could have gotten far more creative with the cut of the pants and layering. i'd have added some looser jersey pants, and asymmetrical knits and t-shirts...:ermm:
actually agree with tricotine, the styling is so forced.

I hate the pants...it's so unflattering IMHO. Also agree with Tricot on the styling...

I don't know. It seems rather unwearable. (Or at least, I wouldn't wear it.) As with a lot of shows this season, it'd be really nice if they used less styling and presented clothes really basic; it's easier to see the fit and details of garments that way.

How dissapointing to me! And this is supposed to be Miuccia's line for her "creative" side to shine? i must admit thought, i enjoy the pants, and the glasses.

it is so glaring in fact, i wonder why people cant be objective when it comes to prada, i sense a fashion conspiracy...

I also found it a bit 'usual'... but some of the hats seemed interesting. It's only a little hard to see in the photos.

look at the neckline on this one :)

The sandals are neat too. The fabric she chose for the pants are perfect--I've been noticing lately how nice it is to wear fabrics (the shiny and slippery ones, like satin or silk...) on a hot day. It keeps you very cool. Even dark colours are comfortable :p I'm glad I bought some of this fabric on the weekend. $2 a metre!

Seems like distressed or at least unfinished edges is still in?
