The Designers: Sierra Leonean Abdul Koroma and Newcastle-born Andrew Jones formed Modernist in September 2005 as an entry to the Fashion Fringe competition. Graduating from the Kingston School of Fashion, the duo met whilst consulting for the Italian label Max Mara. Since the competition, Modernist has received the New Generation Award for sponsored stands at The Exhibition.
The Collections: The Modernist aesthetic is a streamlined, refined and forward-looking ready-to-wear collection that is approachable and familiar. Each collection is a mix of luxurious fabrics handled in a casual way and immaculately finished. For their new collection, they continue with hi-tech and lightweight fabric combinations such as nylon, swimwear jerseys, cotton gauzes and tulles used in a modern way. Sharp bursts of colour with contrast a dark, moodier palette while the silhouettes will be kept dynamic and striking.
The News: This will be their first catwalk show at London Fashion Week. They also receive New Generation sponsorship for a sponsored stand at The Exhibition.
Instant View: aQquaint and Sixty 6 in London; Ann Ahn in New York; D.NA in Riyadh.
