Mona Johannesson

Wowza that commercial is HOT!:woot: (and I don't often use that word! )

hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that monaj.net is finally up and running! Much thanks to avadakedavra, the maintainer of the site, and a member here :flower:

I helped with gathering many of the images, and have tried to remember who to credit wherever appropriate, however, if either of us forgot you, please don't hesitate to PM me or email avada at the site. No harm was intended :flower: Other than that, enjoy the site!

As soon as I saw her ad (awsome ad, btw ^_^ ), I thought how much she reminds of Kate or perhaps how much the industry is trying to model her on Kate..

haha yeah, those 2 images are definitely similar to the ad....the ad is modelled EXACTLY after this image though:

It's kinda weird to tell you the truth. I wish they'd let Mona be her own person. Like yes, the resemblance is there, we get it. We don't need to be beaten over the head with it

That pic was exactly the one I was looking for! :flower: Thank you! And you're right, I mean, I didn't really want to post the comment about the Moss resemblance because we see it all the time, but it was just so obvious this time! She may not become a very successful model because of the industry not letting her 'be her own person', like you said. No matter how much I  Kate Moss's look, Mona's is much more pure, clean and beautiful.

I can't believe they copied it so blatantly!

I believe that OriginalSin did the research awhile ago and Craig McDean shot both ads.

It's the same photographer, right? I still don't see the point of making an exact copy, though. :ermm:

Edit: Yeah, I think McDean shot both.

^ yep, he definitely shot both. I don't really understand why he'd want to copy his own work SO blatantly though. *sigh*

^It's just marketing. Kate has enormous selling power as a brand and so by promoting Mona as the new Kate they are trying to tap into that.

Mona clearly stands on her own as far as I'm concerned! :crush:

Well, I think that marketing tactic may have worked in terms of getting her in the door, but by not letting her do her own thing, I think it's now hurting her chances more than helping them. I could be wrong. I hope I am because I really would like to see her do more. I think she's perfectly capable of growing as a model, if only they'd let her be herself.

I don't think it works for Valentino and definitely not for Mona. Many people will probably think "how boring, they used an old pic of Kate", if they even make that connection... And for Mona, they have pushed her as Baby Kate for two years now, when it only really worked her first couple of seasons. So I agree this won't help. Unless IMG decide to give her a second push, maybe give her a different look, I guess Mona will happily go more and more commercial and make $$, before she retire and moves home to her horses. :)

I agree totally.

Well it got all of us talking about the ad didn't it???;) That is free publicity there. And word-of-mouth is the most powerful form of advertisement. To be honest, I don't think whether Mona is her own person or not was Valentino's main concern. I think they mainly want to promote their product. It is a business, and they got to do what they got to do to bring in the money.

It did get us talking about the ad...and I think most of us forgot about the product, which is supposed to be the most important part

I think they are hoping the buzz would lead to sales. A big risk, but it could lead to major gains. I guess we will have to see how well the fragrance does. Sometimes buzz can be a very powerful selling tool, especially b/c we live in the age of the internet and etc.:D

^ This is tFS, though. We discuss and dissect ALL campaigns. :D I don't think there's a buzz anywhere else, really. Like I said, the general consumer will probably either find it stupid that they used an old pic of Kate, or not react to it in any particular way. It's a beautiful ad so I'm sure it will sell, my mistake to say it doesn't work for Valentino. My point was I don't think the concept itself, making a copy of the Kate pic, is helping in any way.
