Mona Johannesson

^ But keep in mind, their target audience are likely to be tFS members ;) And this is a pretty huge forum too.

I think you both make valid points, but regardless, it's a pretty boring ad. Beautiful, but so uninspired, the Mona-Kate thing has been done I don't know how many times already. She sure looks beautiful, though.

Do you reckon she'll show up in Milan or Paris? I don't want to think that we've seen the last of her on the runway. :(

I hate to continue dragging this perfume ad longer than it needs to be dragged  but I was also thinking about how copying the Kate image might not be a good idea even from Valentino's perspective. If the target audience are tFS members and others like us, then the chances of people recognizing that image as originally done by Kate are higher. You have 1) die hard Kate fans, 2) die hard Kate opposers, 3) people who are indifferent. With the first group, I feel seeing an ad like this may engender a negative reaction because it's a ripoff of Kate and for many of these people, it probably isn't even as good. To the opposer, Mona looking like Kate may be annoying especially after the FW2006 where Kate was in soooo many campaigns. Kate is overexposed as it is, do we really need more of her (via a cloned image) in the world? Then there are those who are indifferent and are less likely to recognize the image as a clone, which would render the whole tapping into Kate thing useless to begin with, so why not just do something more original/inspiring? I agree with OlgaKorbut. I think the image is beautiful. I think Mona looks great. I just don't know if it's the best strategy in terms of marketing or in terms of her own career (in the long-run). BUT I am happy that she is doing stuff. I would think she got a nice chunk of change from doing a perfume ad (maybe I'm wrong, I don't really know how much this stuff pays), and the commercial will get her more exposure both of which would be good.

Like Olga, I hope to see her in Milan and Paris. Hell, I'll even take London (sure the big names aren't there, but she's walked in London in the past, and I'll take whatever I can get at this point )

The target audience is tFS members? I do not see how that could be... Ad companies don't target their ads for an internet community. They target the average Joe, or should I say average Josephine (:p) either watching TV or flipping through an issue of VOGUE. Targeting one small internet community wouldn't be a smart business move.

^ well I don't she means tFS as an internet community, but rather, tFS as a large group of very real people who buy magazines regularly, check out the ads, take a real interest in fashion, etc. I think with perfume (b/c it's cheaper than let's say, a Prada dress, lol), there are plenty of non-fashion lovers / average Joes who will be able to buy the perfume, so it's true, we should keep them in mind as well as a target audience :)

I think her agency saw the Kate-resemblance as a door suddenly opening to to get a girl that didn't meet the standard modelling body on the market. That was their way of pushing her and they probably knew it wouldn't last.
I find it very sad if they don't give her a second push cause she's got such a great face that fits both commercial and more editorial modelling.

..or maybe if she landed a long-term beauty contract, she'd be perfect for that!

I can't remember who was wondering about this, but a while back, someone wanted to know the photographer of the SS2007 Filippa K ads. I found out it's the same guy who shot the FW2006 ones: Patrik Sehlstedt. :flower:

Yes, I think the discussion dragged on a bit (and now I'm continuing, sorry), but what do you mean it's a coincidence? That McDean incidentally shot the exact same pic twice and it just happened to be with biggest Kate-lookalike?

Yeah, the pose is the only similar thing, it happens a lot & most models do tend to look like kate moss, every new models seems to be compared to her, the lighting is different the angle of the shot is different the mood is different, but then again, it doesn't matter, if mcdean wants to replicate a famous shot of his he can... it shouldn't matter.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree that it's merely a coincidence. The pose is identical. The only differences are the person (who happens to be nicknamed baby-Kate) and the flowers on her chest and privates. The stockings even matched and they fluffed up her hair much in the same way Kate's was fluffed up. That's not a coincidence. I think it's pretty clear that it's intentional. McDean of course may do whatever he wants to do with his own photography, no one is disputing that. But from a marketing perspective, I think it's only natural for us to wonder why and the effects of it. Are our theories and queries correct? No, not necessarily. We're all just speculating here. But it DOES matter that he chose to do the ad in this way. And this is just in general - advertisements look the way they do for a reason. We obviously don't always know what was going on in the photographer's head (+art director's, etc) and any image can be interpreted in many ways, but what is put on the page matters a great deal, whether it's a replica of something or a completely original idea :)

haha yeah same here. Though I must admit, at one point in my life, I was interested in going into advertising, so I apologize for dragging this out, but I do find the subject fascinating in general!

And so that people don't have to listen to me talk anymore :p here are some more images that belong with the set posted here:
