Monique Olsen

Awww, she looks adorable at Chapurin!   Thanks, esprit:flower:, it's great to have someone else on the thread who's Monique-mad!^_^

I've tried to watch that video, but alas, my internet connection sucks. And it's blocked here at school....

My friend sent me this a while back. It was translated by me (so it's not that good). Enjoy!

Minutes before the Lane of Goeye show, booker Mosque Hissed received a phone call from the São Paulo Fashion Week (SPFW) legal department. They asked for the proof of age of model 16-year-old Monique Olsen. Without documentation, she would not be able to walk. Since the organizations's new rules of the event, only models older than 16 and healthy (as certified by a doctor) can walk. Olsen has been in the profession since 13. The Catarinense, 1.80 meter (5'9"), 52 kilos (115 lbs), participates in the main runway shows of the world. She divides her time between Paris, Milan, new york and Brazil. In Brazil, for the first time in her three years in the profession, Olsen ran the risk of not walking unless the lawyer found the document (on time) that to booker swore to be there. Luckily, he found it, and Olsen donned a marine blue microdress.
The new regulations were established after the death of 21-year-old model Ana Carolina Reston Macan, due to complications provoked by anorexia nervosa, in November. The rules are part of a campaign with the objective to attract attention to the illness that affects 1 percent of the poplulation, according to the the American Association of Psychiatry. In the world of fashion, where the thinner is winner, the dysfunction reaches 2 percent to 4 percent of models.
Organizers of São Paulo Fashion Week, feel that more experienced models are better capable of handling the stresses of the profession.
"The new rules do not resolve the problem, but we will have more consistent implications in the near event", Dell Kranz says, coordinator of the health campaign in fashion.
Despite the fact that it may be not be the solution, the restraints are already being effective.
"This year we stayed with a dried casting because we lose the new faces", says I Fall Gobbi, that presents its new collection today. "The oldest girls are more emotionally resolved and give less work. This year, we did not hear about girls dismaying before the show."
As the running around is big, it is not difficult for a new face to forget to eat. A day of Fashion Week in the schedule of a model means a few hours of sleep and a lot pressure. On Thursday, Olsen walked in five of the seven parades. She woke up at 6 o'clock for a fitting of the clothes. Then, she walked at 11 o'clock in the Gardens. At 1:00 p.m., Olsen was already backstage at Compatriot Viera, the fashion designer for whom she walked an hour afterwards at the Museum of Modern Art, in the Park of the Ibirapuera. When she finished the show, she had another fitting, in pine Trees. Back to the Ibirapuera, Monique walked on the runway for three designs. The last show, at 9;00 p. m., was for Lino Villaventura. In Olsen's agenda there were still schedules two more fittings.
"The fashion today is very professional and the demand is high", the stylist says Paulo Martinez, who began when clients still linked straight for model's home and not for the agency.
"I hope models will learn to have a good head, maturity and to lean on the family, and to do not survive solely for the career."
Monique nibbled between shows.
"I always little bars and a little guava in my bag, something I could eat on the run", she says. "People think that the life of a model is only glamour", olsen says to top model, 18-year-old Renata Kuerten. "Nobody imagines the as regards thin people." (I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THAT PART)
Backstage, there is always something to eat for the working. Penne with tomato sauce, mousses, chocolate cake, soft drink and water are offered to ease those who worked for the Compatriot Viera show. Those who participated in the zoomp show had the options of sandwiches on whole wheat bread and fruit juices that came in little bags, properly controlled by a list. It is not allowed to repeat the meals.
At least 20 new faces were not allowed to participate in this season's fashion week.
"There was bad of the restraint. Because of that, in all of the shows we had the same faces", says Gobbi.
Monique, for example, was in the casting from 24 of the 38 shows.
"The audience has gotten sick of see always to same expressions. New clothes should come accompanied by the coolness of the new face."

Monique has now moved from Mega to Ford Brasil.

Thanks for that article, Esprit!:flower: It seems to be implying that the only reason Monique was in virtually every show in Brasil was because they weren't allowed to use the younger 'new faces'. I hope that's not true!:(

I shared those same feelings. But I don't think it is in the slightest bit true because she has managed to remain very active in an industry where you can become quickly passe.

Hmmm, i think Ford is more commercial so i'm worried she won't ever push through & 'make it big' now. Apparently, she's just had a shoot for Brasilian Marie Claire, which isn't exactly Vogue or one of the edgy magazines i'd like to be seeing her in. It's great she's getting work and we'll see more eds, but personally i want to see her go the way of the other Brasilian girls of the moment - Lais, Carolina P, Caroline D and Daiane. But Monique has already been around for a couple of years now, so i don't know if it's too late for her...

Of course, i hope i'm wrong. Maybe i'm worrying to much, cos it's only a change in her Brasilian agency, she's still with Women in NY, Paris & Milan.:)

I agree. I see how quickly some of these other Brazilian girls had made it big and I ask myself why Monique hasn't hit it big already. She's been around for like four years so now I feel she won't ever get to snag that huge campaign. But, these top models change fade away rapidly so I'm proud of Monique for being able to hang on! :)

PRADA HEADBAND

Ashley Olsen wore the satin band first while out in L.A., then twin Mary-Kate turned up in the trendy mini-turban at a fashion party in Paris.

^This is the thread for Monique Olsen. She's a Brasilian model, and isn't related to Mary-Kate & Ashleyin any way!:flower:
