Montreal Street Style

Hahah, you must be sticking around McGill campus alot....

I think this thread is a bit misleading, especially for this board seeing as how most people here are very up-to-date.
When people refer to Montreal as the fashion mecca of Canada, I think its more relevant if applied to the percentage of people who dress well, or at least creatively with an individual style, as compared to any other city in Canada.
Walking around in downtown Montreal you see way more people who care about fashion than in any other city in Canada, IMO.

Of course, if you're coming from all the scenester parties in NYC, these pictures are going to be blah blah the usual for you.

hehe nah, i am never around there. downtown feels too toursity for me too. although when i stayed in the old port in november i saw quite a number of sharp middle aged women...

these pictures does not do justice to the creative fashionista in montreal, but thanks to everyone who posted :flower:

I just moved to Montreal, and I honestly hate to say it, but I am rather dissapointed in the streetstyle I have been exposed to thus far (although the general public seems to be more physically fit and attractive).

Maybe I am in the wrong area though? Does anyone know of a particular neighborhood that is stylish?

keep in mind that we're in the cold winter months, so people probably don't dress the part as much.... you'll see more great streetstyle in the warmer months. it's a bit difficult to be stylish in the winter i find.

what neighbourhood do you live in? that could be it...

naysayer! i think it's probably a bit more EXPENSIVE to look 'stylish' during the winter maybe...but not harder. but i agree theres a lot more going on outdoors during s/s so you usually see more interesting stuff.

a particular neighborhood that is stylish? not really. also kind of depends on what you define as stylish.

personally the neighbourhoods where lots of young people live are usually a bit more stylish, like le plateau and mile end for instance...

i think it IS harder to look cute and fashionable with -20 temperatures when you just wanna throw on a big ugly kanuk and stop torturing yourself.
i still manage to avoid the kanuk coat tho but the coats in montreal sometimes are so MEH like wool that is made out of big thick cardboard material with uninteresting cuts. here in paris the cut is so chic and feminine, wish we could find those in montreal, at least for late winter-start of spring

^^it is possible to find pretty, feminine-looking coats in Montréal, but i guess most people do not bother for looks, they just want the warmest coats. Unfortunately Kanuk is still popular here :(

by the way Mackage makes nice coats, but they're expensive. H&M has really pretty coats too, for a lesser cost.

no it's really not.
1. pleanty of f/w collections will testify to that.
2. if you have a vagina you should have figured out by now that looking good isnt always comfortable.
and come on this is a fashion forum, its fine for your loser sister to limit herself to what they have at mango, but for anyone here to say 'i wish you could find that in montreal...' pay the 30 dollars in shipping and find it @ 1 of the 3 billion other places that sell exactly what you want.

i would argue its actually harder to look all that sharp in the depths of the hot as hell summer when wearing clothes period is somewhat of a feat.

i always look gorgeous, in summer or winter, whether i paid 600$ for a coat or 30$.

    oooo the modesty...j'adore

...ya mackage is nice ...BUTT, it gets old and repetitive esp as so many brands in mtl make cheap ripoffs of it

oh i know!!! and i don't think i always look "that" great, but doktor avalanche seemed to be on a roll so i had to say that B)

im quite tired of mackage anyways.... i always prefer my h&m coats!

Mark Hunter is in Montreal right now. There should be some Montreal Street Style pics up at thecobrasnake.com...

cute. i know some of these people. involved in fashion/accessories, rather innovative- not surprised to see them pop up in here.

I live in the Plateau. As the winters finally let up, it is true that people seem to be putting more effort into how they look. It would be great if someone could post some photos!! I wish I could work up the courage to ask if I could take someone`s photo.

Actually, one thing I have come to appreciate about Montreal is that people don`t seem to spend as much on their clothing. It is nice to see some people with style that do not have to rely on buying instantly recognizable items etc...it did take me a while to get used to it though.

As far as what I consider to be stylish, I although I keep to pretty much one or two overall styles myself, I think it is fun to see lots of different things. aka more establishment designer items, industrial, indie, arty, minimalist etc...I guess I was hoping to see more in Montreal in terms of variety...

So given that I`m not too particular about any given aesthetic.....any suggestions?

yeah i just meant f/w stuff is typically more expensive across the board. ie a winter jacket will [obviously] always cost more than a tank (whatever price point youre shopping at) so basically in the s/s its easier/cheaper to convey a look w/out $$ being as much of an issue.

yeah peope have to understand when montreal is toted as being 'stylish' its compared to like guelph not belgium. but theres stil some daps like the asian chick that works at reborn ...

or if you want to see REAL MONTREAL STYE u can do what i do and sit out side of the u&i on st.laurent and watch the mens ann dem show on big screen:p

lol!!!

or just hang out at euro deli on st-laurent on a saturday afternoon.... ;)
