In my search for quality footwear, I ended up passing on Carpe Diem and buying shoes from Munoz Vrandecic. I got them at IF, and I would post a picture if they weren't at the cobbler's, getting reinforced soles. Anyway, here is a picture of what the shoe looks like:

The shoe I got isn't a boot, but otherwise is extremely similar except that it might be darker--not black, but a very deep coppery brown--almost like an old penny has been beaten into a shoe (a very large penny, I guess). Fantastically comfortable, and completely hand-tooled and stitched. I can't seem to find much more information about him on the web. From what I could gather, Munoz is Eastern European but makes his shoes in Spain. They were definitely a "wow" when I saw them, and a purchase when I tried them on.

Talking to the cobbler, he told me two things: one, if you want to keep shoes in good shape, don't ever wear them two days in a row, and that a cedar shoe tree isn't necessary, although it can help; and 2, not to ever wear leather shoes like these in the rain untreated. Usually I just treat suede, but no one had ever told me not to wear shoes two days in a row... And he also said that if I can afford John Lobb, then he definitely recommends making a visit (I can't afford it, but I'll keep it in mind ;)

shoe trees won't help? that's a first. i would definitely recommend shoe trees. i heard about the two day thing from a cobbler as well. i remember these shoes, they are beautiful. mucho dinero, iirc.

IIRC, Shoe trees need only be put on the shoe in the first 30 minutes (maybe an hour, I can't remember what the ridiculously short time it turned out to be) after wear, then you can remove them. The heat and moisture from wearing them supposedly allow the shoes to mold around the tree, and then cool. After that, it's supposed to be a non-issue having them in.

I think I paraphrased him a little too much. Mostly what he said was that the best thing was not wearing shoes two days in a row--that was the most important. He said that shoe trees would help wick the moisture out after wearing them, but that they aren't nearly as important as not wearing shoes two days in a row. So basically what bakla said is what I should have said--the trees help, but the real key, apparently, is not wearing 'em two days in a row. Guess I better get another pair..

I only buy jeff west I'm afraid. Well, mainly.

I just love the styles. Not the most expensive in the world. £110-£135 for a pair.

Hah! I'll email you the NDC info once I know that a purchase can be made, kLm. By the way, what size are you in NDC that they didn't have it anymore at Rafe?

Great-looking boot pic, by the way. If your own shoe is anything like it, it should be gorgeous.

moved to shoes,shoes,shoes... :winkiss:

Hmm... ok, I guess I thought people might want to know about a new shoe designer on the scene, but I won't quibble. I just always look in that forum and not in this one as much, so it made sense to me! ;)

I'm a size 10.5 or 11, depending on the shoe, and they only had 10. Thanks for the compliment re: the shoe--it actually might be the exact same color, except that it isn't a boot. Hard to tell because of the lighting. If you happen to go in IF, it is right in the front by the registers.

PS They could not have been MORE unfriendly in Rafe. Maybe it was a bad day or something, but we were the only people in there (torrential downpours), and I had to remind one of the women working there that I was still waiting to try on a shoe that she said she was going to get 5 minutes earlier, but then stayed on the phone instead :/

Im here with information about Vrandecic.

They are sold by Lift and Minority Rev (predicitably)

Munoz Vrandecic is a label based in Barcelona,Spain. They make only bags and
shoes.
Munoz is an engraver and is usually teaching it in college in Barcelona.
Vrandecic is his wife,
and she is artist. They use only 3 fabric, compressed calf leather, wood,
brass.
Their product is all hand crafted, and is worked upon like antique. The
dying process is
also by hand.

Well THAT's sucky. I'll report them to the authorities!

And what does your shoe size translate to in European numbering?

Meanwhile, raijin, you are just a font of knowledge! man!

Ditto. Last time I was there was in the beginning of last year....double the inconspicuous :ninja: !

Those are real beauts. They remind me of a combination of Victorian spats(for women) and combat boots of the old.

the flat shoes look great, remind me of some old carol ones from ss05.
I didn't know if munoz was still being produced, i don't think there is a london stockist any more.
