Other signatures? Like what? He raised the height of stiletto heels? Ohhhhh yeah, that's so original. If anyone has looked at an encyclopedia of shoes and look at designers such as Roger Vivier, Manolo B & the forgotten Andre Perugia it's pretty fair to state that there's not anything else original about Christian Louboutin. His rise for fame was established by that of his networking with fashion socialites, having his name in trashy music lyrics and modelled by every real housewife who think Herve Leger dresses are hot S#!%. I give him credit for establishing himself one heck of a business but to only have a red sole to distinguish yourself from the rest is by far lazy & original. The YSL trial was not necessary and I am pleased that YSL did win that case & I hope that teaches Louboutin a lesson to not go after iconic businesses that are far more original than Louboutin could ever be.
That is the most ridiculously oversimplified post I've read in quite a while. I'm not sure what Christian Louboutin or his shoes did to you to make you spew such vitriol towards him and them, but as I and others have pointed out, the man has created a shape and look that is purely his own. His stilettos, like that of Vivier and Blahnik, have an incredibly distinctive shape that makes them identifiable enough without the red sole. He incorporated fetish wear into his footwear designs and made it mainstream. He was one of the earliest people to push extreme new heel heights as something mainstream. He made hidden platforms a must in shoe design. And really, what did the likes of Vivier or Blahnik do that's so different from Louboutin? For Vivier it was the flat pilgrim buckle and the comma heel. For Blahnik it was the pointed toe and the slender stiletto. For Louboutin it was the platform and the red sole. I fail to see how he's not right alongside them as someone who took something that wasn't their own invention and made it instantly recognizable as theirs.

Don't get me wrong, I hate how ubiquitous his name has become and I find his more outré offerings of late a little tired, but to say he's not done anything that's his own and boil his entire success down to the fact that he makes his soles red is simply incorrect, not to mention a sign that your opinion is too biased to be given much merit.

And to say that the Real Housewives and J.Lo are who have made him a name is also untrue. Anyone who watched it -- and who didn't? -- can recall when his pink ruffled sandal was made an actual plot point in an episode of Sex and the City, waaaay before his shoes were on everybody's feet.

spike...really?...
why are you even bothering...
ignorance is bliss...

^_^...

you know...
i was about to sell a pair of iconic christian louboutin pumps that i got from one of his earliest collections...
i got them marked down because no one knew who he was and the shape was so different from manolo blahnik, who was the leader of the pack at that time...
they were a sexy, chic version of a black pump...
and they were tougher and gutsier than anything blahnik has ever done...
they were very rock n roll...
PLUS---
they had this SEXY red sole...:o
OMG---amazing!!!...
i felt like a rock n roll princess in those shoes and people definitely noticed the red sole...
because NO ONE ELSE HAD IT>>>!!!...

little by little people caught on...
and eventually the brand was cheapened by the people who started wearing it...
kim kardashian and posh spice come to mind......

so i've stopped loving louboutin...
but that red sole is ALL HIS...
and it always will be as far as i'm concerned...

i think i'm keeping the shoes...
^_^...:woot:

It had nothing to do with your point

A platform and a red sole is what you consider distinctive? Sorry but compared to Manolo, Roger, and many others he is far from being as distinctive as them, even prostitutes and drag queens have designed heels like that before his business established.

And to say that the Real Housewives and J.Lo are who have made him a name is also untrue. Anyone who watched it -- and who didn't? -- can recall when his pink ruffled sandal was made an actual plot point in an episode of Sex and the City, waaaay before his shoes were on everybody's feet.

lol, so Sex and the City is any better than those shows? Oh my, the taste of some people. I don't think I can take somebody seriously in terms of fashion when they're wearing a t-shirt and a pink tutu in an opening sequence of a show like that. And I think this goes back to what I say about him getting his name out in the industry.

To make it simple, I think he's good when it comes to getting himself out there in the public (regardless of the people who wear his shoes) and establishing a business. But to only have a red sole and a few extra inches of heel hight to his name is downright lazy, unoriginal, and in my opinion tacky. You can continue to say how rediculous my opinions are, i'm not asking anyone to agree with me.
