Another brilliant thread by fashionbutterfly!
Well, my country has, like any other country, some good things and some bad things. Let's keep the sweet for last (dulcis in fundo, said our ancestors) and let's start then with:
10 BAD THINGS ABOUT ITALY:
1) Mafia (and most of all, being known all over the world for THAT!
)
2) Politicians (the word "poliTRICKS", used in raggae music, fits perfectly to 99% of them...
)
3) Lack of social sensibility (we tend to thing only about ourselves, disregarding the others...
)
4) One of the smallest % of people reading books (the vast majority of the population is probably lobotomized by our lousy tv programs, I guess
)
5) Too many "powers" (the Roman Church, the syndicates "triad", the P2 leftovers,...and of course the first point too...)
6) Too much attention for football (and thus too few for all other sports)
7) Prices doubled over the last years due to lack of controls as we switched to the euro (other EU countries didn't have the same problem, as they DID make controls and FINED those trying to take advantage of the change!
)
8) Too much people (and therefore too small flats, and too few green areas)
9) Too many cars (spend 5' in Milan's/Rome's traffic and you'll agree...)
10) Bad behaviour (cheating others is considered sorta cool...)
Luckily enough, we also have good things, though:
10 GOOD THINGS ABOUT ITALY:
1) The best, tastiest, healthiest food of the entire galaxy!
2) Loads of creativity...
3) Our...differences (no other country has so much difference within the same small space; mountains, sea, country, old towns...20 regions, each with different dialects - and yet more differences in each one of those! ...that's something we should treasure...enjoying our differences instead of fomenting racism, of course!
)
4) We do it better
(or so they say...
)
5) A sweet, musical language
6) Great artists (in literature, cinema, music, wherever)
7) A looong history (I like the idea that my town already existed 2,000 years ago
...and the latins themselves named it "NOVA Comum" - "NEW Como", as it had been inhabited already several centuries before they came)
8) A mild climate (generally)
9) We're close to the rest of Europe (particularly here on the border!)
10) We have the most beautiful lake ever (Lake Como, of course!
)
