Burberry's New Beauty
01 July 2010
Following magazine shoots and a campaign with Miu Miu, schoolgirl model Nina Porter gets set to front the Burberry Beauty make-up line this month, alongside Lily Donaldson and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. VOGUE.COM caught up with Porter between school and GCSE revision to find out what it was like shooting the campaign with Mario Testino, and whether being a Burberry beauty girl has changed her.
How was it working with Testino?
Soon after meeting Mario I went to the Frieze Art Fair, and he was there. He recognised me and came over for a chat - that was great as I was to shoot the campaign a few days after. He is always charming and friendly which makes it much easier to relax and enjoy the experience.
Did Rosie and Lily give you any modelling tips?
They didn't give me any tips but they were both friendly and easy to work with.
Has being part of the campaign changed your make-up habits?
I don't wear much make-up as a general rule so I enjoyed seeing the subtle enhancement that Burberry colours can give. I learnt a lot from watching the skill of the make-up artists on the shoot, which makes me feel I will be wearing make-up more often in the future as Burberry's lovely products make me feel good but don't make me look "made up" in that obvious way - that just isn't cool.
What are your favourite Burberry Beauty products?
I like the eye make-up, the sheer eye shadow in particular - it is elegant and cool. Actually, the whole range looks and feels great. For a party I do like a little eye accentuation and a really good lipstick, if it is a special occasion. The Burberry lip cover is lovely to use - I am looking forward to having one in my bag at all times for an instant mood lifter!
What's next for you?
After my GCSEs I'll stay on at Camden [School for Girls] to do A levels in Art, History, Textiles and Photography. I've also got another campaign coming out and am shooting with British
Vogue and American
Vogue with Terry Richardson.
