An early warrior against mass-production and globalised fashion Noki has been customizing since the late 90’s. Through cutting, stitching and embellishment he lovingly alters a garment Ask anyone who wears his clothes and they will refer to the precious, almost couture, quality he brings to something previously discarded. Noki (an anagram of and pun on IKON) prefers to remain relatively anonymous, only recognizable by the elaborate masks he wears. This winter he has also designed footwear and bags for Luella. For Spring/Summer 2008 which will feature at Fashion East, he introduces NOKI-NHS-Customisation and Aftercare Service; NHS standing for Noki House of Sustainability.

Fashion East: Directed by Lulu Kennedy, was launched in September 2000 to give emerging talent an opportunity to show their collections on the runway during London Fashion Week. Each season three womenswear designers, selected by an industry panel, are chosen to take part in a joint show. Fashion East is an Old Truman Brewery initiative also sponsored by Topshop. This season House of Holland, Louise Gray and Noki have been chosen to show their collections. Past winners include Emma Cook, Jonathan Saunders, Jens Laugesen, Richard Nicoll, Gareth Pugh and Marios Schwab.

brilliant! and good for him too in his stance

Oh my...I must say I do love it for the sheer fun factor.

Obviously this collectoion has some fans, but to me this looks like a joke. It's kind of Heatherette but darker, a bunch of shredded up, studded, repieced garbage that looks sloppy.

Seems like it wants to be of a Margiela caliber with the whole reconstruction thing, but it couldn't be farther.

Well, I'm not a huge fan but when I see this collection I think a lot of it can be pulled apart and styled very uniquely to the individual. My personal style couldn't be further from what is shown here and yet I can see little pieces that I could use to construct/enhance a whole outfit, which I think is really fascinating.

You could either take it as it is presented here, or mix and match to achieve something that is actually quite simple/chic ...it's all there.
I also like the idea of his 'recycling' aesthetic, to me it holds a lot of possibilities...

I generally don't like heatherette, to me it's just brainless and poorly constructed but Noki feels different to me.
