Norma Shearer....three of these I know were shot by Hurrell (and I would assume that the fourth (the closeup) was probably shot by him too). The horizontal in white satin with fur was 1934; the vertical in (a different) white satin with fur was 1936.

I wanted to introduce you to Norma Shearer, perhaps she is not as well known as some other Golden Age of Hollywood actresses, but she was actually a six time academy award nominee and a one time winner. Here's a wikipedia pull quote:

Her long, streamlined form, and often mischievous looking grin made her extremely popular. Her earlier successful roles were generally those of "modern" women, which was Pre-Code short-hand for sexually uninhibited. As she achieved superstardom, she was relatively restrained in both comedy and tragedy, then settled mostly for "Great Woman" roles. Her screen persona remains indistinct, but particularly after Thalberg's death in 1936 she had a series of surprisingly effective performances in smaller and more offbeat vehicles.

finally a norma shearer thread .thanks for starting it,bettycooper !!!you´ve posted a nice selection of pictures.i´m an admirer of miss shearer too.she exudes so much class and sophistication and i loved her in the divorcee ,the student prince,the women and marie antoinette.but in the end the first thing that comes to my mind when i think of her is not one of her roles but the way hurrell depicted herure elegance in long,exquisite gowns with a slight touch of decadence.

^I'm a fan too! She's not necessarily the most beautiful lady ever, but she photographs so devine! I'll ask Orchide if she can gather up the photos from the 1920s and 1930s threads...

Thanks Orchide! I almost posted this one in the 1930's Actresses thread, before I remembered that she had her own thread..

This photo is Norma shot by Edward Steichen in 1935 for Vogue...and by the looks of the dress, there is another photo from this shoot in post #6.
