Taking the vintage trip a step further, fashion houses like Louis Vuitton and designers like Dries Van Notten, DVF and  Donna Karan, got inspired by Hitchcock heroines, polka dots and peep toe shoes, turning the 50's mood a step further for spring summer 03.

Prada, miu miu, Dries Van Notten, BCBG, Armani and Galliano - signature line- to name a few, take the nostalgic mood into in a new level, incorporating 40s details, vintage-y winter prints and cinematic old school sexiness for the coming season.
Nick Knight is shooting the Pirelli calendar in a refreshed pin-up mood.

what do you think?
are you ready for the sexy secretary?
fake preppy queen look?
i've read Hollywood is working on the remake of Greaze

easy trend for me, since so much of my wardrobe is comprised of this stuff anyway - full pleated skirts, a-lines, cardis, and so forth. :) preppy vintage.

but no grease remakes, please. :yuk:

theres always a place for a hitchcock farmiglia on the mantle

remakes of grease _______
to put salt through my veins
juss to see me sit in pain

im not big on the fifties. its too repressive , imo, contrived innocent etc. .......and besides that legnth of skirts dont suit me well  as for the grease remake.....i can see it now GREAZE starring justin timberlake and beyonce hip hop production scored by timbaland and the neptunes :dizzy: ..."i get chiiiiiiiiiiills" just thinking about it

I kind of like it. Return of the lady, hopefully. I loved Hitchcock and his heroines. You could be sexy without showing off all your ***ets. ;)

As for the Grease remake = :yuk:. Can't we just leave the classics alone?

I do like vintage, but I'm not sure about the 50s styles. They don't seem to suit me. Grease wasn't the word for me  , but honestly I can't imagine anyone apart from John Travolta in the male lead.

I do love the 40s look though, and I would love to see some 40s influences.

Exactly, I kind of like the Hitchcock connection and I feel it might get teens out of the '80s black hole.
Prada had some great late '50s pieces for winter

I think the trend comes as a reaction to those boring '80s sl*tty looks that have been around for ages now. It could also be the mainstream reaction to the never ending ride of vintage chic with a twist.

The look sure needs a great dose of humour and personal style.

here something from miu miu

I love it!!

I even tried on some peep -toe shoes today :shifty:

i am totally LOVING peep toes at the moment!

"return of the lady"... again??? Can't say I mind BUT it's just recycling from Spring/Fall of a couple of years ago.

Can't wait to see "Down With Love", should be plenty of 50's & 60's/ladylike inspiration there!!

50's came out as major pret-a-porter direction only last october with spring-summer '03 RTW shows Precious, then it debuted in retail first time March'03 when the collections started being distributed in the shops, it is not that old a revival ;)

btw, welcome at TFS Precious share and enjoy :flower:

I think the 50's trend is GENIUS!!!!!! I bought a pair of black peep toe shoes at the local salvation army for 2.99!!

I'm taking the polka-dot a little further, though. I making two ulta mini's with ruffled bottoms. REALLLY CUTE! I saw a couple in teen vogue...about $250 a piece. My mom is an awesome "sew- er". So, we went to the fabric store..got some patterns and black polka dot on a pink backround and hot pink backround with white polka dot fabrics. Totaling a whopping $20!! Two skirts plus extra fabric!! Woo hoo!!! :woot:

I've been looking at the marc jacob's mules which are styled in simple nostalgic lines... =) wish me luck... I'm probably gonna hit the stores this weekend

I'm looking at mules... since I can't wear too high of a heel...

in which the original cast star......( newton john and travolta)

WAAAAA yes Tay!!!! i installed it and now i cant get rid of it!

there is hello kitty floating around with some bear following her.....and every now and again, a big heart appears with a french poem  LMAO

I think I am ready for all of these looks but they might just come and go. I am not sure they are going to be anything other than just trends.

I like the look of some fifties styles. I have a great dress from sometime late fifties/early sixties that is demure yet very sexy, which I like.
I agree that it is more lady like and while I have no problem with in-your-face styling, for me this innocent/sexy style works much better.

Thanks for posting this topic
