So I'm trying to find magazines to intern at in the fall, and I'm realizing most of my favorites (i-D, Lula, etc etc) are based in London or elsewhere. What are some cool (or semi-cool) fashion-related magazines based in NY?
I've come up with:

Nylon
Vice
Interview
the Blow Up
Jane (not exactly indie, but still good)

that's true, i like teen vogue, i'm trying to avoid the big conde nast mags though. i also thought of surface and V.

surface is in NY?...i think they only have a sattelite ofc here..not sure though...
they used to be in san fran...

why would you avoid conde nast...?
V is a good mag but probably more elitist than any conde nast pub...

NY Mag also has a lot of fashion...

i think you're right, they do have offices in san fran, i wasn't sure which one they were based out of though. i'm not trying to avoid conde nast at all, just trying to think of other options to try as well! i also thought of tokion and paper.

personally- i think you should forget paper......

and imo...you should go after the biggest magazines possible...
ALL of them...

isn't it possible for you to asst. an editor or stylist or whatever in NYC? someone who freelance? it's ok, too, non?
I'm pretty sure there are tons of freelance stylist/editor in NYC... that work for american mag. but also for european mag.

I love the fact, softgrey is always encouraging/supporting young people that really want to work in fashion... that's really good...

yes berlin, i'm planning on doing that also, i just thought getting on with a magazine would help me make some good connections and learn the in's and out's of the magazine industry better.

thanks berlin...i try...

smashin-you are right- better to get in at a mag asap...

*if you aren't having any luck...
you might also consider interning at an agency that represents stylists...
it's a good way to get to know some of the stylists and make some contacts who you might eventually work for later...

thanks soft i will!

so does hintmag also have a print version now? or are they still just online?

hintmag is online only

I agree with softgrey...send your resume everywhere & make sure it looks good because even if there isn't an opening at one particular title the person holding your resume may know of one at another magazine & recommend you.

And always remember...

Magazine work is a social game & people notice...everything:wink:Enough said^_^

Best of Luck to You:flower:
