Old Houses

seanutbutter, you've posted a house in my city that I've actually been in :D

I :heart::heart: my old house. It turned 80 years old this year. It's a little English Cottage style bungalow with Storybook details. I've decided to sell it, and now have some work to do before doing that. When I was looking at old houses to buy, it seemed they all had major unfinished business, a project looming on the horizon, so I want to take those out of the picture with mine, which will hopefully get me the top dollar both the house and I deserve

It's true that old houses are work, and they're a commitment, but I don't want to live any other way. It really irritates me when people don't have respect for the old house that's older than they are. Even the way you furnish and decorate, in my opinion, must be done with respect for the house. I would also sooner slap the pope (I have been tempted, luckily he has never come within range :ninja:) than destroy an original feature. Don't get me started :innocent:

This thread is wonderful. I aspire to live in a house like one of these.

thank you. love porches. this is my 1st post. would like to see a new thread on porches. My son tried to start a National Porch Awareness Week for the second week in July when he was in college some years ago.

Oh I love the old houses.

I love the Charmed house. I think it embodies everything Victorian in my mind. The deep color and the colored glass in the windows. My fav!

i know it's really wierd. the carolands mansion was owned by the pullman family, and built somtin=me in the early 19th century. now a whole suburban area has sprung up arouund it in the past century, but it's a gorgeous neighborhood. it has alot of history 2 girls were even murderd there you should look it up it's really interesting

This old vicarage was the first I thought about when entering this thread. It's from the beginning of the 17th century. My aunt and uncle lives there and we normally celebrate christmas there - it's just the ultimate place for relaxing and spending time with family :)

tinetush, your family's home is beautiful!! It's my dream house  looks like the ultimate place to create and share memories with loved ones :)

i love old homes. my mother tends to like generic development new home and my father loves modern contemporary homes. I enjoy simple unique minimal style but in my heart I will always adore a house with history. My dream has always been to own a home with no surrounding residences in the middle of nowhere with a lovely garden. I love homes that are real "lived in" and have a warm comfortable welcome (what homes should be!) Old homes always have quality craftmanship but require upkeep, i love the smallest details in doors, doorknobs, windows, moldings, etc. I always tend to between an authentic country house and a decadent estate.

Here's a lovely home in Peapack-Gladstone, NJ Blairsden Manor built in 1898 (supposedly haunted :ninja:)
