On-line Shopping -->Sizing

I have loooked around in various threads about on-line shopping and how you could spend less and get more from these on-line stores.

What i couldn't find was an exact answer about sizing when you shop on-line. The only answer i can get (when you shop designers brands), was that you should know the exact size for each brand. But because i had experienced many problems even when i was visiting the stores on person (size-depends on clothes line), i would like to listen on any of your suggestion of how you could be sure when you place an order on-line, that you will get the right size, and that you won't have to return it back till you find the right size.

how about you? aren't you concerned about this issue when you shop on-line?
 
I don't usually have a problem with sizing because I order the smallest size that they offer, usually, unless they use junior sizing. But let me attempt an answer to your problem...

If you click on "Customer Service" or "Help," there are usually charts that provide measurements that translate into sizes. You can also call customer service and tell them what you want to order, and they can sometimes give you an idea if the sizing runs small or large. Sometimes they'll really go out of their way for you, too, but you have to call to find out. For example, some places, like I believe Land's End, will allow you to mail a tracing of your foot to get the proper shoe size.

I also get cues from the kind of clothing that the shop sells. If everything is fitted or geared to teenagers, I know that I should size up. If most of the clothes are cut boxy, then I might size down.

And if all else fails, there's the exchange!
 
so if you know the cut of the specific apparel, and there is a return policy, there is nothing to worry about , right?

I usually try to find size charts and I have a tape measure handy to measure myself.

Yes, always check the return policy. But that goes without saying! I am the queen of returns. :P

^ Me, too :P Which is costly when doing it online sometimes :shock:

Mulberry - I have the same issue. I order online quite a bit too and still can't nail it down. Even when using the size chart and measuring tape, it's been wrong... which really pisses me off if they put an inaccurate size chart up :angry:

Anyhow, definitely read the return/exchange policy. Some are so much better than others. But, unfortunately, I think this is just one of the downfalls of online shopping :cry: Other than that, I'd say start keeping track of the sizing scenarios and learn from the mistakes :flower:

I've found it really helpful to ask here about sizing before ordering too. Chances are someone has shopped the vendor or line before and can help you :wink: This would be a great thread for that!

Yeah return policy is very important... unfortunately many times i have came across with some shops, offering that return policy (10-30 days) but they ask you to pay for handling and posting of the return:( .

i'm really confused... I'm afraid to buy because of the sizing issue..then i think allright there is a return policy...but then..extra cost, if i havn't done the right size selection :blink: . hahaha :D ... really confused:rolleyes:
