Once you go designer, do you ever go back?

depends on if you buy the flashier pieces (once the logos go overboard, fat chance not recognizing it). but a lot of big brands offer a lot of unlogo'ed pieces, which IMO also offer better quality and construction.

.....but ann d doesnt do flashy, logoed items. and if you ask 'average joe', he will have heard of, and recoqnize, Gucci, Dolce, Prada etc, while probably not know of Ann D.

im sure Gucci offers splendid quality, but i prefer something not-so-many buy. (and yes, you may again go with the 'but then again, quite a few buy ann d', but im comparing to Gucci, which 'everyone' buys)

good is good...
i don't care where it comes from...

i'm almost always mixing high end with high street...
whatever works...
it's so NOT about the label or the price...
it is about the fit and the style...

the hardest thing with the high street is that so many of the cutest things get snapped up SO quickly...
didn't used to be like this..
but the general public is absolutely more fashion conscious and spending more money on looking good than they have in the past...
so that is kind of a drag...
i'm not really going to wrestle a 20 something yr old for the last pair of wedge sandals at zara...
or even for any of the cdg @ h&m...

:P

I have both. I really dont think anyone with a typical high paying job can afford to have a full closet full of designer, especially with the rising prices. I get designer if its something I really love, will go with several outfits and I wont get tired of, as well as having something unique, seperior quality or something that makes it worth the $$$. But then again there are tons of clothes that fit the criteria and I cant get. Otherwise or for plainer items I either look for vintage or cheaper brands. It's really about getting the best outfits for my budget and sometimes all designer isnt the way to go.

in all honesty, i've never been into designer goods due to the bad experience of seeing countless of flashy monogrammed bags when i was in my mid teens, therefore everything that was considered designer i shunned and mocked at, also partly due to the exorbitant prices.
however, i've recently realised the beauty of designer items and how the quality really speaks for itself and i've been bent on wanting to get to the point where i can afford designer items. right now it seems like having a designer piece of clothing is worth more than having say ten pieces from a high street label. i guess it's the feeling of owning luxury that makes it hard to go back once you go designer. it's all about the feeling, i don't know how to put it in words exactly but i'm sure you guys know how that feels.

but that's not to say i don't think high end goods are good or worthy, they are, especially if you want to try out new trends without bursting your wallet. i think like what most of you have said, mixing and matching high-end or vintage clothes with a key designer piece is the key to making an outfit work. it makes our high-end clothes seem justified and it brings out the beauty of the designer piece. :D
this is such an interesting thread!
