Paltrow plans another unusual baby name

I agree! The more unique the better. Shannyn Sossamon called her son Audio Science which seems awesome to me.

I like unique names too. My name's unusual in France (I had never met another Jade until I reached 16.) and I've received compliments all my life.I had never met another Jade until I reached 16. It's a trendy name at the moment though. My brother's name is totally unique I think (Hilkiah) and he loooves it.
Audio Science doesn't sound good to me though. It's just ... not lovely.
I like Apple. Graham Coxon named his daughter Pepper and I adore this name. I think it's very cute. I like how it feels when you say "Pepper".
The way the lips move. Of course because I'm French it's easier to make abstraction of its meaning .

Oh and I take the chance to tell you that Sienna rocks the casbah. It's a pleasure to pronounce because it starts with a Sss.

Sorry to dissapoint, but your name is actually very very common in russia and other territories of former ussr :innocent:

It's not her real name. She talked about her real life name.
She even says that she "never met anyone with it, seen a character in a book or movie sharing it" .

It was rumored a while back that she was thinking of naming the baby Capone (as in Al Capone... but hopefuly not named after him).

Anywho, I can understand why she decided on Apple... She mentioned that her Dad thought it was such a sweet name for a baby girl... and soon after, her father died. I can understand that for sentamental reasons.

Apple isnt that odd of a name, I've met a few Apples in my lifetime. Reminds me, I'be met a girl named Moon Sun. :D

Apple isn't too weird of a name. Not nearly as bad as Kal-el Coppola Cage. I wish these parents would think about their kids chances on the playground while they're comming up with names.

Nicolas Cage named his kid Kal-el?! :lol:That's Superman's alien name!
Hilarous

The only thing I could imagine of calling "Pepper" is a dog... I actually KNOW a couple of dogs named Pepper...

I don't know about you guys, but I fail to see the originality of the name... all I can see is that there is a great chance that when she calls out "Apple" or "Pepper" or whatever other food and electrical appliances, a mum names her kid, a dog might show up instead....

This would be funny, yes, but original? It's the same with fashion. People ARE allowed to wear whatever they want.... but extreme effort to be seen as "Original" runs the great risk of making you look like a fashion victim, which, trust me, it does raise quite a few eybrows...

Well I've seen dogs called Oscar, Lola, Suzy, Isaac, Nelson, Cindy, Nathan, Stephie, Max, Kevin , Katie, Billie, Hector, George, Charles ect... which are common human names. I have yet to see a dog called like my brother or like me for the matter.

I like how Apple and Pepper sound. I wouldn't call my child like that but it sounds great to my french ears. I don't understand why it bothers people that she named her kid Apple.

Look at all those common and traditional french names : Olivier (It's a tree), Claire (it means bright), Florence (like the town), Pierre (literally means stone ),Perle (Pearl ), Ambre (Amber), Marine, Martial, Constance, Rose, Violette (flower) .
Nobody teases them.My brother and me have never been teased . We both love our names.
Her name doesn't sound that weird to me anyway. In fact I prefer Apple's name to Gwyneth's.

That's so funny....

now all I can picture is Gwyneth calling out to little Apple and having an old mutt show up instead.

Made me laugh.

Thank you for properly reading my post :flower:

If you must know, my real name is Sequoia. I'm sure there is a fictional movie/book character out there somewhere with it; but until Toyota slapped it on one of their hideous cars, the only places I'd seen it were related to the redwood/national park, and the great Cherokee Sequoyah. And I do know others with my name exist, but I've never shared a school, workplace, or town with one, and I like that.

Pepper does have a lovely "feel" on the tongue, and sound.

My husband and I have big plans to get a boxer (dog) and name him Karl. We just find it funny to be out walking the dog and yell "Karl, get back here!" and then this funny looking boxer comes trotting around the corner.

To each their own... but yea, I've seriously heard stranger names than Apple. My old hairdresser in SF called himself August.

I find Apple more unusual myself, never having heard anyone else with it; while August makes me think Augustus, which is old fashioned and rare these days, but used to be pretty popular. Unless he was calling himself after the month, in which case, the strange label seems arbitrary to me. May and April are accepted baby names. Personally, if I were to name a kid after a month, it would be September; Tuesday if it were for a weekday :D

Let's cut to the chase: the only really cool name is Man Friday.

No, seriously, he legally changed his name to August... after the month. I've got no idea why... but he was a interesting artsy hair dresser guy, so it fit him. He never would tell me what his birth given name was:huh:

being named stephanie, i want to give my kids unusual names.... most of the girls at my prep school have typical names: Leah, Amy, Katie, Amanda, etc. but some of my friends have odd names: Renata, Alixe, Cullen (not that odd), Henna, etc.

I hope she names it Cheese. Cheese and Apple go so well together!

Or peanut butter  I used to eat them together all the time when I was little. My mom would put quartered apples in my lunch, but I didn't like to eat them with the discoloration they had by lunchtime, so I'd bring them back to my friend Susie's house & put peanut butter on them to hide it

And if she went with Peanut Butter, she'd almost have to name the next one Banana in honor of Elvis B)

Alternatively, what about something from each of the four food groups ... one down, three to go ...

Filet Mignon (or Soybean for the crunchy set)
Yoghurt (or 2% for the minimalists)
Quinoa (or Whole Grain, it would be a constant reminder to everyone to get their 3 servings a day)

gwyneth and her hubby cannot top the late great frank zappa in choosing the weirdest children's names -- dweezil, moon unit, ahmed emuukha rodan and my personal fave...diva muffin.

i know a guy and a girl named cheese, the girl spells her name 'cheez' though. however, those are not their birthnames but the only names they go by. i also know a girl named du-wop and my best friend's name is jupiter. both are birth names given to them by their parents. seriously, nothing wrong here. original names are the best, nobody ever forgets it when you introduce yourself.

speaking of the name sequoia, i had a co-worker whose mother had name themes for her kids. my co-worker's name was sierra, her sister was savannah. another friend's parents did the same thing. kids were rocky, stone, jade, and gunner.

I heard on the radio that the Martins will be naming their baby boy Mortimer.
