Patricia Field - Stylist

She was being interviewed on tv today (wearing a leopard print dress and ankle boots) and she seemed like such a great lady. She said she likes to see beautiful things :)

i saw her once in Century 21 in New York City, with her assistantm with a cart full of clothing. She's really petite! it surprised me, i always pictured her bigger than she really is. She is also super slender!

A superstar on the downtown retail scene for decades, the world-at-large fell in love with Patricia Field thanks to the outrageous and over-the-top styling she did for Sex and the City. Suddenly, thanks to Field, everyone’s mother in South Dakota knew what Jimmy Choos were. Field has since styled films like the Devil Wears Prada as well as the show Ugly Betty. Her fame is so global that Field was invited this year to "present" and style the fashion show at the Life Ball, the world’s largest AIDS fundraiser held in mid-May on the steps of Vienna’s town hall which features a retrospective fashion show each year by a top designer like Versace, John Galliano and Roberto Cavalli. Field chose to "present" the Blonds, a duo known for their Las-Vegas-style costumes for stars like Beyonce and their wild New York nightlife club looks. We recently caught up with the candy-apple-red-haired stylist to chat about Life Ball and any nuggets she could share about the new Sex and the City movie.

So tell me how you got the Blonds involved with Life Ball?

I met Gary Keszler, the founder of Life Ball, and I struck up a relationship with him, and when Gary came into New York early in the game, I don’t know, I just suggested the Blonds to him. I introduced him to the Blonds at last year's Life Ball. I guess also Gary thought that it was fitting for me to present them formally to the Life Ball. You know, the panache, the name, the whatever, cause the Blonds are relatively unknown. I mean next to the other kinds of designers they've had in the past, Versace, Cavalli, Westwood, blah blah blah, right?

So basically I suggested the Blonds. I love the Blonds. One of their strongest qualities is their show quality. So I think it's a perfect collection for a gorgeous show. After all, it's the Life Ball, it's not going down the runway to take orders, the buyers aren't there making notes on which numbers they want to buy for their department. So on the show quality level, I thought they have that in them so beautifully. So that was the reason.

What do you think about Vienna? Do you like it? Is it a fun place to visit?

Oh yeah, I love Vienna. I like it for its Viennese quality. Vienna is uniquely Vienna and for that it captures your attention. It's insane. Those buildings… To me it looks very "get rich quick"; it really reveals the "get rich quick" quality of the Hapsburg Empire. You know, like, I'll take one of everything.

The looks at Life Ball are so crazy. People supposedly prepare all year round. How do you think the looks on the revelers at the Life Ball compare to the looks of the club kids and the fashion people here in New York?

The club kids, those are the real fashion people of New York, not the Uptown people – they're the originals. They're very New York-friendly, the Life Ball people. They don't send a jet to L.A. to get all the people [an Austrian Airlines jet brings a plane full of New York revelers to Life Ball each year including models, celebrities and club kids]. But I say, for the future, it would be nice to expand it worldwide and invite the Japanese. They're cute. They are very pro-New York, which is great, but they could expand it more worldwide.

So in other news, I heard that they confirmed the next Sex and the City movie.

Oh yes, it's definitely happening.

Any preliminary thoughts about that?

I'm going to meet with them on Friday, like a first meeting. I'm very involved in this but the thing is, I need to see a script, Mickey. I don't know anything other than they're making a movie and they want to start prepping it in July. That's all I know. I don't know what happens in the movie and that's what I need to know before I can talk about it. I have nothing to get inspired about. I have nothing to talk about because I have no information. Hopefully it will all be good.
