Maybe it would make it easier if you compare her to someone already living. Like Jil Sander. There are a lot of articles on her, you can really get a sense of how she makes her decisions. Everything is tied together for her. Why her home is designed the way it is, the way she dresses, the way she designs her clothes and stores and offices. They all have reasons.
Sometimes it's the personality that influences one's taste, appearance, and sometimes it's the environment and lifestyle that influences.
How old are her children? Maybe the younger they are, the less time she has to herself?
What's her job like. Does she have to travel often? Does she go out into the wild to do research or does she conduct interviews with people who are in the field. How passionate is she about her work?
Is her girlfriend working too? Who gets the groceries? Who does the laundry?
The busier or more stressful life gets, the more things she throws out of the window. The more she focuses on only the most important things. If looks aren't important, then...
