Please Help Me With My Homework/Research/Survey

BetteT: you save me again I perused those threads but my problem is not information but organization of a conventional paper on such topic. I'm trying to figure out the most suitable approach.

One more thing, bibliography, since I don't have direct access to the magazines, I attain only data posted on tFS (issue, month of release, photog, models, name of the ed....). Do I have to cite the page number too ?

It's been decades since I had to write papers ... and there was no internet then, so I can't answer that question about citing any web sites ... I have no experience with that.

But consider these points, at least:

I was not suggesting that you use the comments that members post here. I was hoping that the threads would lead you to ideas about the points you would want to cover and to form some of your own opinions about it.

I would still think that you would need to do some serious reseach to back up any points you wanted to make ... and maybe you'd find links in those threads that might lead you to new articles, books, etc ... that you could use to document your opinions and conclusions. Then you would cite those news articles or books, etc.

I think that you need a lot more sources than tFS to impress anyone ... one source is not enough, especially if it's just a forum. It's too lazy ... it would not be good. They want to see that you can actually do research. You must get to a library, too, I would think.

And, at that library, you should be able to find books about writing papers and how to structure them properly.

I mean I don't get direct access to the magazine to exactly know the page of the editorial (yeah, a tiny detail but I still want to ask) so when I compile the bibliography, do I have to include the page number from the magazine (according to manual of Chicago and APA style, I have to) ?

if you want to have a good bibliography, you, indeed, must include page ...
Have you thought going to a library ?
but i'm sure that if you have the right credits that would be enough.
what about, for instance :
Photog, "Title", Vogue Paris, issue number, month and year.
(I really doubt that you have to include models' name, etc.)

after all you are not quoting an article, but an ed/ad.

and about your subject, i consider you should compare your "fashion" corpus (don't take tons of images, just one or two ed/ad for each thematic you consider important) to an "art" corpus.
Comparison is very important, and the historico-socio-politico context is important, too.
You could perhaps talk about Larry Clark (he is controversial in France, those days, because of his exhibition at the MAMVP)

I don't know if you're french or read french, but there is a book by Dominique Baqué, that I advice you to read for your subject :

I have a photography assignment on a current or past photographer and I chose what I thought would be an easy pick - Steven Meisel. However, I thought wrong as he is notorious for not giving out much personal information in interviews, etc. With google I was able to find his preferences, his fashion history, however the biographical things such as his birthday and childhood are either unpublicized or extremely well hidden. Can anyone possibly point me in the right direction? A quick scan of his thread hasn't helped an awful lot (though there was a great interview on his fashion perspective). I feel rather dumb I'm unable to find simple information from such a famous photographer :|

TFS! I need your creative help!

Hi everyone, so I am an undergraduate student studying business administration right now. My entire next semester revolves around this huge project where I will be working with a group of classmates to make a complete business plan around a product. Before I can do that I need to brainstorm possible ideas for this potential product that we could be building a prototype for. What I want to ask all of you here at TFS is:
1. What in your opinion or according to published articles, are the most popular fashion trends RIGHT NOW?
2. Can you think of anything that doesn't already exist (like a tool, accessory, etc.) that you would like to be manufactured?

So I have this admissions essay to write and the topic is basically give a biography of your life including any work experiences, hobbies, extracurricular activities, etc. etc. Anyway I've been putting it off because i don't know how to write an essay about any of those things in an interesting way or how I can make it interesting while still including relevant information about work experience, etc. etc. Any thoughts or ideas? I'm really grabbing at straws here people

I've recently finished mine. One thing I've heard admissions people say is, don't start it with 'Ever since I was little I wanted to do this' Because thats how 99% of them start and they're sick of hearing it.
Also, when mentioning hobbies and extracurricular activities they want to see how you can relate the skills you use in these activities, to skills you need for the course you want to do.
Eg. Going to dance lessons for 10 years... Shows you have dedication to stick in at something.

hi guys, i was wondering if you could help me with some research for my dissertation. i'm looking at american luxury fashion & consuming in the 80s and 00s. i'm writing a bit about it in general and focusing on brands that were important at these decades, such as ralph lauren and armani for 80s, and louis vuitton and marc jacobs for 00.

can anyone suggest me any specific reading material, or even, an interesting topic to be discussed within that? thank you !

I don't know exactly where you want to go with this ... but I'd be interested in learning about the growth and popularity of any particular brands during those decades and analyzing why that was happening. In other words were there a socialogical, economic and political things going on that alllowed the popular brands to grow ... to make them relevant to that particular decade? And if you are comparing the 80's to the 00's ... were there differnces and were there similarities and why?

it's gone a lot more specific now and i'm slowly making it clearer.

i've decided to only concentrate in ralph lauren throughout the decades and with that pull the idea of the construction of american identity. i'll probably be looking at their campaigns a lot, and doing my lit review on advertising, branding, consumption and american identity.

does anyone have any suggestions with reading material?
