So I'm not sure if anyone will be able to help but I was wondering if anyone was knowledgable on the clothing depicted in statues of the Kore from Archaic Greek art? I am doing a paper on these statues, in particular looking at how the clothing depicted did/didn't represent the clothes worn during this era and the meaning behind the garments. I've found some information but I'd love to get some more detailed knowledge on it. Thanks

^ I'd say the McCartney and the Lanvin are good ones but the best example is the Balmain, think true horizontal line

The 80's shoulder was an eggagerated take off on the 40's. Crying Diamonds is correct in pointing out Joan Crawford as a 40's fashion icon. . It was her own shoulders that inspired the 40's shoulders .... she exagerated hers by padding, but she really did have big shoulders.

War time in the 40's impacted fashion a lot ... so fabric and everthing else was rationed then, so skirts got shorter and skimpeir and I honestly think that the shoulders and the suits and pants for women that become so popular then, stemmed from military looks ... due mainly to the war. So I would say that anything with strong shoulders, a military look, especially suits and coat dresses, and high waisted, drapey pants are definitely inspired by the 40's.

Then the long, slim and sexy gowns with ruching and or expansive cleavage are pure 40's Hollywood. Not to mention platform shoes (wedges, in particlaur) ... which are also 40's inspired.

Hey guys, I was just wondering if i could have help in finding editorials in the same camera style and concept style as Vogue Italia July 2000 with Hannelore Knuts. I really like this cinematic style in the pictures, I just cant find any more research that is in the similar vein to that editorial.

I am much more interested also in the indoor shoots in the house and some of the black and white shots compared to the portrait studio shots for inspiration.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has begun uploading some of their out of print books- which includes many from The Costume Institute. I think it's a pretty great resource, they have books spanning different era's (like the Victorian) designers (Dior), and topics (such as American sportswear). And I have a feeling that they will continue to update this list of books- anyways, happy browsing!

Jewelry Rental With Option to Buy?

Hello fashionistas.

I work with a high end jewelry rental company preparing to launch in a couple of weeks and I've been meaning to saunter in here and gauge thoughts on the following: I know sites such as Adorn and Rent the Runway are sort of covering this market but what we're launching is jewels and timepieces on a whole new level. I've read that jewelry rental is a waste of money but would you feel the same if this was membership based and a portion of your rental fees allowed you points toward a purchase; something you just couldn't part with? You could even rent items until you find something you love. Just to give you an idea of inventory, we are talking Chopard, Judith Ripka, A.Link, Chanel, Breitling, Piguet, etc. I'd love some opinions!

Hello all,

For my final research project on my international fashion marketing course I am undertaking a study into the Homosexual Market.

To begin with I want to present a short timeline of the writings on this subject and then move into how this market is catered for in today's industry.

I would appreciate opinions on matters such as advertising and brands etc. Or anything you think deserves research and coverage.

I am at the beginning of this project so all ideas are welcome

Particularly with advertising do any brands come to mind? So far I have looked at American Apparel, D&G and, of course, Levi's.

Frankie Morello, Dolce & Gabbana, dSquared2, Abercrombie & Fitch, Sisley, Tom Ford, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, etc, have had at least homosexual undertones in past campaigns, it tends to be an undertone because though these brands obviously want to cater for the gay population they don't want to make it irrelevant to the bigger group of heterosexual potential consumers.
