Plus Size Girl on a Fashion Party

Hey you guys,

I guess this is my first entry into this forum. hello

I'm invited to a fashion party in new york - and I'm plus size.
I've never been on a fashion party - my friends keep telling me
the people might act weird towards me because of my weight.

so my 3 questions to all you gals in here

1) have u ever met a plus size (say 2/3XXL) girl on a party, what did you think?

2) in your "fashion"-business, is it really a NO GO to be plus size on those partys? do i really have to worry? i mean, nothing can stop me from going there, i will be going there anyway. but just curious!

3) where in NY can i buy classy trendy fashion for plus sizes not too cheap lookin' but not too expensive? (i´m just a trainee).

4) are some plus size girls in here too or are we "out of the game" when it comes to FASHION?

Well, Im a plus sized girl, in the size range you met - and Im by far one of the most stylish people that I know! It's not about what you wear, but how you wear it. Maybe I can help with your questions, as I also work in the industry:

1) have u ever met a plus size (say 2/3XXL) girl on a party, what did you think?

I usually am that girl, and Im usually having a blast and not caring what others think (which I think is they key to success). There are always a few plus sized gals at meetings/runway shows/parties that I attend, and they always look good and have a great time.


2) in your "fashion"-business, is it really a NO GO to be plus size on those partys? do i really have to worry? i mean, nothing can stop me from going there, i will be going there anyway. but just curious!

I really don't think so. I think if you wear something thats stylish, and flattering and have a great smile, people won't even think to look at your weight.

3) where in NY can i buy classy trendy fashion for plus sizes not too cheap lookin' but not too expensive? (i´m just a trainee).

I don't know what they have in NY (Im in the SW) but Old Navy is always great, Torrid is FANTASTIC and Lanne Bryant is good too. Do a mix or low and high end items.. doesn't matter how much you spend, it's how you wear it.

4) are some plus size girls in here too or are we "out of the game" when it comes to FASHION?

We're not common in the industry, mainly because it's foused on being thin and all of that, but for me, personally, I don't care.Fashion is my life/passion, and I'll be envolved until I die, regardless of what anyone tries to tell me.

thank you so so much for your answer!! i am really looking forward to NY,
you have to know: i'm from germany and here being plus size your more in a .. left field when it comes to fashion. you can only get some grandma stuff or some "a little" stylish things for really expensive prices. i am really unsatisfied with the clothes you can get here.
and i would say i have a great sense for style so NY will be paradise for me i guess, i will check out torrid!
and i will enjoy the party, thank you so much

Honestly... I'd dress CLASSY.. and Lane Bryant does have some nice stuff sometimes.

Torrid is more of a trendy type of store for plus sized girls.

Have fun at the party.. who cares what anyone thinks! you're great!

Seems to me like your friends are probably jealous that you've got this fabulous opportunity.

I'm not plus sized, but I do have a very curvy figure (finding jeans that don't gap at my waist makes me want to punch someone), so I can appreciate being outside of the mainstream. It sounds like you're totally comfortable with who you are, which is 99 percent of being accepted. Go and have a fabulous time...no one will mention your weight.

Aww, No go? Out of the game? No way! Just look at Crystal Renn and how stylish and gorgeous she is. Whenever I see a plus-sized girl looking stylish and enjoying herself I am immediately attracted to how she doesn't let the lack of choices limit her stylishness or how great she feels about herself. I'm not plus sized but there is NO way I would think any less of a plus sized girl at even the hippest, chicest, fashion-industry parties. On the contrary. In fact, some plus sized girls I've met were so lusciously stylish and sexy that they got me honestly wishing I were plus sized too.

if you are stuck for ideas, maybe think of some plus-sized celebs and hunt for pics of them! i have seen queen latifa look AMAZING in some of her outfits.
