Saw this on men.style.com:

June 27, 2005—After slapping her name on umbrellas, bathrobes, and socks, Miuccia Prada has decided to do jeans. When the collection hits stores next month, Prada Denim will face stiff competition (see our comprehensive guide here), but the jackets, shirts, and jeans should command attention. The cuts are traditional (no Dolce & Gabbana-style 3-inch rises here), and the seven different finishes range from dark blue to gray. Understated aesthetic aside, you'll instantly recognize the designer's touch, thanks to the familiar red tag on the right cuff, logo inside the watch pocket, and a just-short-of-subtle "Prada" stitched on the right rear pocket. The best indication of these pants' provenance? Their $295 to $695 price tag.

Prada Denim, available in July at Barneys New York, www.barneys.com; Scoop NYC, www.scoopnyc.com; and Prada stores; more information at (212) 334-8888.

I was wondering if anybody had any more information, opinions, or pictures? Men.style.com only had one pic and you could barely see the jeans. I for one am looking forward to seeing them, though I don't know if I want to spend $695 on a pair of jeans. Also, mods, I did a search and didn't find anything, but if there is already a thread about this, feel free to merge.

Thanks,
John

What the hell? With that description, you'd think she was making fakes. Must she put three logos on them? How dumb...these will be counterfeited out the wazoo.

AlexN,

It does sound a little suspect with 3 logos, but unfortunately there wasn't a pic of any of the logos or even the jeans beyond the verbal description... so I'm hoping that they are going to be less tacky in person than they sound.

Another example of the ongoing democratization of luxury... Prada needs cash after Helmut's and Jil's bad press... guess this is a new way to do so. What annoys me is that Prada was back on top after the years of sneakers and bags all over the place (red tag galore), and now they start it again...

i saw them at barneys, and boy are they so cheesy. the real ones look like counterfeits.

Am I mistaken, or hasn't Prada done denim in the past? Or is that the Prada Sport line?

Prada has, from time to time, had jeans as a part of their regular collection (or Prada sport), but I believe that this is a complete line of denimwear, standing apart from the regular collection. Again, I'm not positive on that, but I don't believe it is simply a one-time part of the spring collection from either the mainline or sport.

yea its a totally seperate line like armani jeans i guess, but not as cheap as armani jeans.

CdG Shirt also showed jeans in their SS06 presentation (I saw it at catwalking). I think a lot of JW pieces (jkts) are made from denim. But I could be wrong seeing from the pictures.

something about this idea is just wrong......and i would not spend that much on a pair of jeans, prada or not.

just cashing in (husbands influence?)- stick to the mainline and miu miu for the fashion and leave the denim line and sport lines for the masses that think prada's "classy"...

I was actually impressed with the jeans they did for S/S 04 for the main line. They were very simple with no apparent logos and reminded me a lot of basic dark APC jeans. Yoox has a pair on sale here but they are too big for me...I'll stick with my APCs anyway, they are finally starting to look broken in after three years!

I also liked those jeans... which was why I was excited at first about the Prada denim line, until I read about all the cheesy logoing. Those from s/s 04, as you said, were quite subtle.
