This movie is getting lots of oscar buzz directed by Lee Daniels and produced by Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry. Starring Gabourey 'Gabby' Sidibe, Mo'nique, Mariah Carey, Paula Patton, Lenny Kravitz and Sherri Shepherd.

Not sure when it'll be out in theatres. I think November 6th.

i wanted to read the book. but its written in a pidgin english (ie poor grammar etc) so i dont think id be able to get through it. too arduous.

i definitely want to see the movie however. mo'nique is supposed to be great in it.

Definitely want to see this. It won the Grand Jury prize at Sundance.

^Yeah, depressing but also empowering, powerful and poetic at least that's what I remember feeling after reading the book such a long time ago. So I'm interested as well to see the movie.

Yeah, I just hope they don't sugar coat the events that happened in the book because they're too controversial or graphic or whatever. I really want them to keep it true to the story 100%

Thanks for starting this tread. The bookstore in my city won't have the book until the 20th. I want to read the book badly in time for the movie release. But I am kind of scared to.

I cried watching the trailer. When Precious keeps saying no one loves me, no one loves me.

I know, I'm so scared to read the book. I cannot wait until this movie comes out!
I watched the Ellen and Conan O' Brien interview with Gabby. She's just the cutest.

Is this movie only coming out in selected theatres?

Right now it's only in select cities but it gets a wide release Nov. 20. :flower:
I've wanted to watch it since I saw the trailer a few months ago and I can't wait to read the book.

The movie is doing incredible. Much better than they expected..

so how many people were crying? i hate it when people see me cry at movies!

I cried, but not nearly as much as I thought I might, considering I cry at Kodak commercials :p It's not very sentimental, but definitely intense.

Mo'Nique definitely deserved her jury award, and when I heard Gaby interviewed, I was even more impressed with her (first-time) acting. Lenny Kravitz also completely disappeared into his character (as did Mariah Carey). Pretty impressive ...

I read the book last weekend and it was so moving. I recommend it to anyone. And I saw the movie and I think I may have been expecting too much or the book took away from it but it wasn't what I expected. :(
It was good and Monique was amazing...but IDK it lacked the grit of the book. I hope Monique gets her Oscar tho! She scared me!

^ I haven't read the book, but of all the book/TV series/movies I've ever seen, only three have been as good as or surpassed the book. And only one of those was a movie. Sooooo ... ;)

I think Precious also did a great job ... it would be great to see two nominations from this movie! I heard Gaby interviewed, and she was saying that Mo'Nique would hug her & they would dance between takes when they were filming any of the intense scenes (OK, maybe all their scenes together were intense ). I thought that was so sweet ... I suspect a lot of actors would be staying in character, but she was thinking primarily of the other human being, and still she hit it out of the park

The book was difficult for me to read because I wasn't used to it but it's such a powerful story. I read it after seeing the movie trailer. The movie itself looks amazing. I'll probably bawl my eyes out or something

I saw it
Everyone should go see it
its an excellent movie...i didnt cry but
i only cry in movies when I connect myslf with a character too much
as if i know them but thats another story lol..im going to go buy the book now and
compare it to the movie

I want to see this very much.

I don't know if I could read the book, though, because of all the sad graphics.:(
