Proactiv

Reading this thread Proactiv is more hype than anything..... their tv ads sound very convincing...

Hey the other day i was watching the E network (dont ask me why lol) and i saw a new proactive ad with Lindsey Lohan. I think i have seen all proactive ads with all the celebrities, and even though i am not a huge Lindsey Lohan fan, I thought she comes of as believeable and really cute. Has anyone else seen it?

yea i saw it when i was in the states. i liked it, your right she looked absolutely adorable. But with concerns to the product, its working ok, i mean i know ur supposed to ahve patience with the product but its starting to take a long time to get the little bits....

Proactiv is nothing more than your standard-issue benzoyl peroxide acne regime with an enormous marketing campaign and different packaging.

I used proactive for 2 years. In the first year my skin was great but then it starts to slowly stop working as well.. and I just recently stopped using it all together because it doesn't work at all anymore. But if you want help fast (it usually takes about 2 - 3 weeks until your skin is really better) then I'd say try it for a bit

I used it and it didn't work, but later I found out it was my water that was breaking out my skin. I switched to bottled water for washing my face and now it's crystal clear again.

So i guess it just depends on your skin type.

omgosh are you serious? this is making me wonder...because i had that porcelain skin until about 17....now that i think about it, my 2 brothers broke out at the same time...i can remember because my mom was spending a fortune on acne meds...

I used to use it, but when I went to the dermotolagist, they said that it doesn't work and they just prescribed me pills that I take once a day. My acne isn't really that bad, I just don't like it.

I bought Proactiv awhile back when I had slight acne around my nose & I put it in my drawer at home and never used it. I wonder if there's a shelf life to it, it's seriously months old. I was going to use it until a friend of mine told me it works my first purging your pores, which in turn causes you to break out pretty badly & then after it clears your left with smooth skin. I don't know how that sounds, but it was enough to scare me. It stinks that I can't just return it, maybe I'll just sell it on ebay. lol

^ lol thats funny. But with my skin i think i just may be allergic to something i eat too, i tend to eat a lot of junk food, and while its not proven to cause acne, im pretty sure that thats whats causing mine, so im doing this 30 day test to see if my skin improves at all. Meanwhile ive been using proactiv for 5 mths now and it has really been drying out my skin lately, so im thinking i should lower it down to 1x a day. what do you guys think??

I'm sorry I didn't see your reply!

I didn't figure it out until I went on vacation and the only thing that changed was the water I was using. In a few cities where the chlorine and minerals were high it would upset my skin again. So I just stick with bottle water now.

this SO makes sense!! i live in chicago, and as you would imagine, the levels of chlorine are high here...and my mother has no filter on her shower head or in the bathroom...that makes so much sense...

I've used Proactiv for years and swear by it. I used to have so-so skin but now I rarely break out, usually only one or two right before that time of the month.
You have to been good about it- do all 3 steps like 2 or 3 times a day.

The chemicals can be so harsh and you don't even realize it. It's simple but something you don't really think of.

So I really don't know if Proactiv would have worked or not.

The problem sometimes lies in the consumers's ability to follow instructions. Key: time. Most people r not aware that a product takes at least 30 seconds to sink in your skin, so if you only massage it over your face for 10 seconds...guess what? you're wasting your money. Try to wash for aleast 30 or 1 minute.(Unless it is a exfoiliate product) Next: duration. You need to use it on daily basic, and continuously. Next: patience. Don't expect it to work after like 1 week. Your skin takes time to get use to the product. Last: sanitation. Even if you wash your face clean, using a dirty washcloth will cause your skin breakout. Your washcloth needs to be cleansed before it touches your skin. I swear by these methods. All of them are CRUCIAL.

Proactiv worked for me. I don't know about everyone. But I don't use it all the time. I use it at night EVERYDAY. But I use cetaphil when I wake up. Follow with a pure face lotion. Then when I come home, I use Biore pore-unclogging scrub in the shower. Then follow with an Aloe-vera base lotion to cool the skin from the rubbing. If you don't shower mid-day but only before you sleep, you are better off with a scrub cleanser. Me, I usually like to take shower when I come home from work, and still have some hours to spend before sleeping hour, so I use different products. Simplify your regimen. And if u find something that works, STICK to it. Don't listen to ads that says it can make your skin perfect. Your skin is perfect now using the same product, why risk it?

A last note: what you put in your body is important too, don't forget it. Have beautiful skin everyday, ladies!

meh....I used proactive for like two years....nothing much happened really. I mean it totally irratated my skin and dried it out so much that it was peeling. Even though it kind of worked (at times), I gave up on it cuz it was just too irratating to the skin. But best hopes to those who are using it...lots of people find that it works for them...:flower::heart:

these too are tips that i swear by, except for the proactive part, and i use burts bees instead of cetaphil..so ladies, read this!!

my skin used to be pretty good until i started college, i don't know if it was because of the stress or lack of sleep or diet, but my skin started to break out really badly, then a friend of mine introduced me to proactiv and I've been using it since then, and it's been 7 years and it still works for me. i actually had stopped using it for a short period of time a year ago, because my mom got me a set of SK-II, but unfortunately my skin started to break out again. so i think proactiv is a good product, cuz i've tried several other acne line, like murad, it was just a disappointment.

omg girl- I so took your advice and left my proactiv cleanser on while i brushed my teeth so a couple of minutes and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Thanks for the advice!

My skin honestly was not bad before I used it, but I had the occassional zit here and there. Out of vanity, I used to to prevent anything from ever appearing, but I think it is too harsh for my face. Right now, with the cold weather coming on, my face is literally flaking off!
